A little about our family, the site and me:

Hi again! I'm so glad you stopped by our site! Let me introduce myself and my family to you. I'll try to add some pictures at some point. My immediate family consists of my husband, Brian, our oldest daughter Sarah, our son Nate, our youngest daughter Hannah, another son (who was a foster child and we just gained guardianship of) Shawn (he's about a year older than Nate), our wonderful pets, and myself. At this writing, Sarah graduated from our homeschool last year (2007) and Nate is a junior in high school, Hannah is in the 8th grade and Shawn is a senior (he is attending public school-long story).

My husband, Brian got our website started back in 2000 when we first began homeschooling, for a surprise anniversary present. He knew I wanted a place to share our experiences in homeschooling, as well as a way to meet new people from all over! I must say we've done that! We've "met" some great people from several countries: Canada, Africa and Northern Ireland just to name a few! Of course, we've also met some great people right here in the United States! We enjoy hearing how others homeschool, or just finding out about the place they live,
their family, etc.

Homeschooling itself has been an amazing journey. Our two older children, Sarah and Nate, went to public school during their elementary years for a time. Sarah actually "graduated" from 5th grade, and was to go into Middle school, and Nate just finished 2nd grade, when we started homeschooling. We'd decided a few years before, that we didn't want the kids in the Middle schools here, and when it was time to homeschool Sarah, we just decided it'd be best to go ahead and homeschool all three. So, our youngest, Hannah, has never been to public school. Please see Why We Homeschool for more explanation.

Some other interests and involvements that I have are:

  • I love to make Gift Baskets. I have done some for friends
and family for birthdays, Christmas, etc.
  • Singing in Church-our family has done some specials
together and we sing in our choir.
  • I used to crochet and cross-stitch, although I've
    done neither lately. *sigh*
  • Working on this site-I love taking "code" and gobbledy goop
and seeing the finished product! LOL!
  • Watching movies. We enjoy the "Left Behind" movies, some Disney
and some Featured Films for Familes.
  • Watching our pets play; Cassie, our half-lab, half border collie,
Stormy, our black long-haired cat and our newest edition, Boots, a little black and white kitten we gave to Hannah for Christmas 2007. They really get to chasing each other sometimes!
  • Bowling-we used to bowl on a league and haven't for years,
but occasionally we go as a family and have fun.
  • Fishing and camping with the family. Makes for a nice get away and quality time together.
  • Reading Janette Oke books and devotional materials.
  • I am currently a stay-at-home mom after I worked in a call center taking orders for 5 years and then in a daycare for about 4 months! LOL!

Well, I do hope you enjoy your visit to our site! It's the year 2008 now and I'm trying hard to update our site. So if you've been here before, be sure to take another look at some new things!

And, if again, if you're thinking about homeschooling, or already are, or just want to say "hello", please drop me a note, or sign our guestbook (or do both)! We'd love to hear from you! If you are a "seasoned" homeschooler, and have advice, please feel free to write me and maybe we can include an article by you!

Please do come back again and see us! Have a good and Godly day!
In His Grip, Gwen
