DJ Envoy is a phenomenon. This guy got his first decks during his early teens, and had his first residency at the age of 16, when he was still too young to get into the clubs he was playing at, and under the legal drinking age. He's a pure turntablist. Scratching skills came naturally to him, and I've seen this guy roll two tunes together from the edge, with no headphones, no queing up, and both tunes hitting each drop perfectly in unison. He once mixed Shaggy's "It wasn't me" with a dark DNB tune, and held them together. It actually sounded good! I was lucky enough to MC for Envoy as resident for Barely Legal, and over a couple of years of busting some firing sets together, I grew to respect this guy like no other. We also had a weekly show together on UK Rumble, although we got blacklisted because I swore too much!! He's currently working in Skynet's studio in Brighton, so expect vinyl offerings from him soon. |

I first met DJ Darken at college, and at the time he was playing happy hardcore, while his twin brothers (Casualty & Conflict) were busting hard techno sets at Die Hard, in Leicester. We soon became friends, and I stealthily influenced the guy with DNB. He started playing out with Show Us Recordings, at a few nights, under the name DJ Duzzit. Still playing hardcore at first, before moving into liquid a bit later. He split from the Show Us crew, and began playing much darker, tougher DNB for Daisho, in London. We joined forces again, played some mash up sets, and I renamed the guy DJ Darken. The name has stuck since then, and for the last couple of years, he's been touring Eastern Europe, unleashing dancefloor mayhem on the unsuspecting public. He's a pure dark terrorist these days, and more than lives up to his name. |

Jerome and Random are pretty much the frontmen of the Javabass crew in Indonesia. They have been fronting the scene there since 1996, trying to educate the local population in DNB. You have to respect their commitment, and dedication to the science, because it's an uphill struggle against a strict, antiquated society, dubious club owners, and a public which has only really been exposed to progressive house and R & B. Random has done much in the studio so far, and played over in Los Angeles during his stay there, although he's firmly set anchor back in Jakarta. You can catch the crew playing either in Jakarta, Bandung, or Yogyakarta regularly. Random and Jerome also grace the decks of other Asian cities, such as Kuala Lumpur, and Singapore. |
