Dear students and parents,
“Our language is the heart of
our culture” (Dr. Antje Vollmer, Vice President of the German Parliament).
Since that is the case, I say, “our German Language School Concordia is
the heart of our German language”.
Our students practise the German
language every Saturday:
they speak German, they read
German and they write German.
They experience the German culture
when they participate in the student assemblies for German, Austrian and
Swiss Days, when they meet St. Nikolaus and when they wear costumes for
Mardi Gras. They sing and play German Christmas carols; they yodel as if
in the Alps; they surf for German information on the computer and they
laugh with the “Kasperle”.
Our students achieve the most
and top placements in the German language competitions of our county
and in the province. They earn certificates and diplomas from the Federal
Republic of Germany. Perhaps it is for these reasons that our student population
is steadily growing. In 2001/2002 we enrolled more than 600 students in
22 elementary, 6 credit and 3 adult classes. We function under the auspices
of Adult and Continuing Education, in the Waterloo Region District School
Board headed by the principal Mr. Ken Lepard..
A school with such a strong
heart can carry on any future endeavours: Spetember 2002 we are starting
a new program, “Passwort Deutsch”, in the upper elementary grades of the
German stream. We are extending our reading programs by working with the
Kitchener Public Library to established a German reading section at the
new Grand River Collegiate branch for us.
I’m truly looking forward to
experience and share all of this with you in the future.
Very sincerely
Mrs Monika Matthaes, Schulleiterin
