A Comparison of Speed 12 Settings

I still say I'm not a great tuner (nor am I a tuner that tastes great) but, I think these Speed 12 settings indicate something fairly fundamental.

                stock mine
              -------- --------
               F R F R
spring rate 15.8 13.8 8.0 13.8
ride height 115 115 85 110
damper bound 7 7 6 7
   rebound 7 7 6 7
camber 2.0 1.0 2.0 1.0
toe 0.00 0.00 0.00 0.00
stabilizer 4 4 4 4
  1st 3.496 3.075
  2nd 2.234 2.016
  3rd 1.582 1.468
  4th 1.178 1.146
  5th 0.924 0.745
  6th 0.768 0.647
               ----- -----
final drive 3.450 3.450
auto-set 23 23(default)
aero (0.44 0.63) (0.44 0.63)
LSDinitial 6 6
LSDaccel 36 40
LSDdecel 26 26

Okay, with the default settings, you spin out all over the place. With mine you don't.

In fact, you almost have trouble holding it in on some of the corners. That is understeer. It allows you to acclerate even on the bumpy bankings without spinning around.

The fundamental change I made compared to the default settings was to soften the front suspension.

So I claim, contrary to what many tuning guides say, that softening the front suspension causes more understeer, and stiffening it causes more oversteer. And conversely for the rear suspension.

Note, however, that stiffer front stabilizers will cause understeer. That is because they actually provoke the front into sliding sooner. (Force which would otherwise cause the body to roll instead causes the inside wheel to lift).
