Wil was born in Manila, Philippines and came to California at the age of 1.  Music has always intrigued him, even as a 3-year-old.  He would memorize tunes from all styles of music, which included R & B, pop and progressive rock.  Singing was always a big part of family get-togethers.  Each person would express their talent through accapela or karaoke performances.  Island culture was also a major influence growing up.  There was a constant surrounding of family and friends tied to Filipino, Hawaiian, Samoan and Guamanian cultures.  It was not until 1997 that Wil first picked up the guitar after being inspired by contemporary and traditional Hawaiian music.  This was the beginning of a guitar style mainly dedicated to the Hawaiian slack-key (kiho`alu) style.  Eager to learn, Wil set out to find a teacher who would take the time to teach the true art of slack-key.  After quick lessons with various guitarists, Wil finally had the privilege to study under slack-key guitarist, Patrick Landeza.  Lessons would last for one year, which would include house visits and food.  There was ALWAYS food to go with the music.  Wil has since continued on and is determined to spread and share slack-key to the masses through the harmonies of Nativ Sun.  Per Wil, "Nativ Sun almost seems like destiny.  You've got a bunch of braddahs who are drawn to music and island culture.  It's what we love to do."
