American Cyborg: Steel Warrior

(1994)

Yes, this is one of those stomach turning low-budget flicks made by one of those "any moron with a camera..." guys. I don't know why I rated it so high (believe me, for "B" Sci-fi flicks, a 2.5 IS high in my tomb), but I rated how I felt, and I stand by my choice. Okay, so anyway, it's 17 years after a major nuclear war (this is how all "B" Sci-Fi flicks start: after a big war or natural disaster), and all humans are held like prisoners in the cities by their cybernetic creations (a VERY low brow "TERMINATOR future" rip). You know, a "technology gone bad" kind of thing. As always, there is a small underground human resistance force. Most importantly, this group is home to the last fertile woman on Earth... and her name's Mary (Goddamn Biblical references. Why don't people try making their own ideas... or at least steal from a more modern source). A taskforce has 36 hours to get Mary's test-tube baby to a secured ship that will take it to Europe, where it will be born and raised in safety (and will dress like a dork and drink Cappuccino all day). Problem? There's a Terminator wanna-be on their trail, who blows their underground HQ (Headquarters) to rubble, with Mary (his target) as the only survivor (BIG surprise). Mar drops an engine block on the poor cybernetic schmuck, and then she's saved from a gang of transvestites by... Lorenzo Lamas?! No, it's not even THAT big a budget! Nope, it's just some Lorenzo Lamas clone. Oh, and if you thought the tin man was scrapped, then you obviously haven't been watching movies too fucking long have you? Mary hires Austin (the psuedo-Lorenzo) to escort her to the boat, paying him in anti-radiation drugs. Sure enough, the tin man's on his way, glowing eyes and all, chasing the 2 through booby trapped sewers. What I don't understand is if he's a robot, who can kill someone from a 1/2 mile radius using his zoom-in targeting scope eye things, then why can't he hit even a glancing blow on Mary, using a machine gun from 10 feet away?! Oh well, after impaling, stabbing, shooting, and dismembering the Pentium Processor on steroids, Austin and Mary come across radioactive cannibals and discover Austin is also a cyborg (though he never knew it). In the end, the French get the baby, Mary goes with it, Austin rips out the tin man's insides, and then stays in America to raise the people to revolt against their steel masters. Just a couple closing arguments on the God of Death's part: first, guys with white hair shouldn't have moustaches. It makes it look like they've been drinking milk (or giving BJs)! Secondly, yo comprende the whole thing with the cyborg regenerating it's injuries, but how do his leather duds mend too?! Are the clothes part of him? Or, is it just a oversight by the editors? Either way, it bugged the hell out of me! Anubis kill now!

Sequels: Nope
