Class of 1999

(1990)

I had one little problem with this movie... my physical vessel was a member of the class of '99, and I sure as hell don't remember ANY of this happening! Then again, I don't remember 1984 turning out like the book, and I doubt 2001 will be much of an "odyssey" either... Well, despite the lousy dating on the title, this was still a cool movie. Seattle, WA is home to Kennedy High School, which is at the dead center of a "free fire" zone. In these zones, gangs rule and fight for control and the porkers wont go anywhere NEAR the action, so it's up to the schools to provide Totalitarian control of their grounds (when isn't it?). To combat the growing bad-assity of the kids today, the school hires a trio of military cyborgs to teach classes! Also, the SWAT team is on Hall Monitor duty (they don't need no stinking sashes!). The principal for the school is played by none other than the original purveyor of ultra-violence himself... Malcolm Macdowell! Enter from stage left, our hero, Cody: some goober ex-gangbanger fresh outta the pen who's just trying to get an education. It's not too long before the kids at Kennedy are being "disciplined", as the 'borgs are gliched, changing from teachers into Navy SEALS (I had a gym teacher who did that!)! Cody and his girlie break into the teachers' apartment, and uncover the secret that they're not human, and the machines start to stir up trouble between the rival gangs in hope they'll kill each other off! But, when Principal Macdowell speaks against the actions of the 'borgs, he gets killed for his troubles. However, the gangs are united under Cody's leadership to kick some faculty ass! After the deaths of most of the punks, the destruction of the cyber teachers, the straight out fucking up of the majority of the school property, and a scene reminiscent of TERMINATOR, Cody and his girl Christy walk off into the sunset (which is highlighted nicely by the flaming school bus). There was some just plain kick ass makeup FX, but they were kinda negated by the LAME one-liners!
