Godzilla vs. Destoroyah

(1995)

Kids, get your tissues handy, cuz this installment marks the official demise of everyone's favorite, rampaging, cold-blooded bi-ped :*( Oh well, all good things must end... We open with the discovery that Godzilla's home of Birth Island has apparently been destroyed! Soon after, the aforementioned big lizard pops up in Hong Kong, stomping mad and glowing an odd red! After he leaves, we learn that Godzilla's nuclear reactor-like heart is on the path to an atomic detonation, in an explosion that could turn the Earth into one big funeral pyre! Seems he was also responsible for the destruction of Birth Island, and possibly even Little Godzilla! Meanwhile, it looks like someone is experimenting with the same micro-oxygen technology that resulted in the Oxygen Destroyer that "killed" Godzilla in the first place! Also, it seems that a mining expedition under G's original oceanic resting place has uncovered a new species of microbes... microbes that can destroy micro-oxygen, like living Oxygen Destroyers! Meanwhile, in hopes of preventing the big Godzilla boom, the government seeks out the help of Dr. Surikawa (the eye-patched lab coater who was the original G Killer)'s genius grandson! The fugly little oxygen munching microbes begin to grow at a phenomenal rate, until they're 6 or 7ft tall and taking on a special forces S.W.A.T. team in ALIENS fashion! And to complete the similarities, the beasties come with those extendible double-jaw mouth probe thingies! Meanwhile, the army tries to slow down the G man without setting him off like the warhead he now is, and hopefully prevent his explosion with the use of the Super X3 and it's array of ice beams, freeze bombs, and cadmium missiles! It actually works out as Godzilla's immobilized for a few hours, and the cadmium missiles he was force fed start to lower his body temperature back into the safe zone! Soon after, Little Godzilla appears off shore, the radiation from the Birth Island blast actually making him a Junior Godzilla, looking alot more like his papa than before! But, just when you think everything's okay, Godzilla's fusion takes control once more, as he strays from the path to a nuclear blast, now strolling toward a nuclear meltdown instead! Should this happen, he would burn a huge hole down to the Earth's core, either engulfing the Earth in molten lava or blowing it to bits! To make matters worse, those Oxygen eatin' beasties have merged, creating the BIG shape changing monster: Destoroyah! Hoping to kill two mutant birds with one stone, the Japs use the psychic girl Miki to "persuade" G Jr. to attack Destoroyah, which would bring G Sr. not far behind! Morphing to his final "giant winged" form, Destoroyah beats Jr. within an inch of his life, drops him from high in the sky, then finishes him off with his oxygen destroying blasts! Now, with his kid corpsified, the big man is understandably pissed when he finally shows up, as he goes into the main event of his "career", GODZILLA VS. DESTOROYAH! At one point, Godzilla rips Destoroyah open, but as a defense, G reverts to his "multiple pains-in-the-ass" mode, swarming G in a scene reminiscent of the final "T-Rex vs. Raptors" scene of JURASSIC PARK. G easily stomps the little boogers, then goes over to the twitching G Jr. to say a last goodbye, before he melts down... only to be confronted once more by the newly reformed Destoroyah! As his spines begin to melt (damn that's some fever!) Godzilla finishes his oversized adversary once and for all (this time with the army's "freezer burn" division for back-up). The big lizard then has his MELTdown, as YET AGAIN, everyone questions if Godzilla is Mother Nature's punishment for mankind's zealous nuclear testing... 41 years and they still haven't reached this conclusion for sure yet?! But, the Earth is saved, as G Jr. absorbs the radioactive discharge (heh heh, "discharge"), returning to life as a new, FULL GROWN Godzilla! Finally, as the credits role, we see a nice little slide show of Godzilla's city stomping from the '54 movie, and his 90's series. Truly, an excellent wrap up to an excellent series! But, as of yet, I am disappointed that Toho isn't making movies based on the grown up G Jr. For some reason, they instead decided to do ANOTHER revamp series for the original G, in which AGAIN they say he never died in GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS, and instead take him on a new road for the new millennium. Oh well, at least his 90's reign was impressive! Goodbye Godzilla! :*)

Also Known As: GODZILLA VS. DESTROYER

Sequels: This is the end of the "revamped Godzilla" series, but a new series begins with GODZILLA 2000!
