Well my miracle is my granddaughter named Maya. That is, if you don't include me. Let me preface my story and say that Maya was not a welcome pregnancy by any stretch of the imagination. Also, I have to tell you this miracle in all honestly so you can really appreciate the power of an Almighty God that I have come to know.

First of all, my daughter was not married and she was living with a man 10 years older than herself (he was also a man of color). Not that I ever saw myself as prejudiced, I had many black friends. It's just that they were not dating "my" daughter! I was really being worked on, and now I can look back and see this was the miracle in its fullness.

I found out about the pregnancy while at work. Crystal (my daughter) phoned me at work to say, "Mom I need to talk to you". I panicked, thinking the worse, because she was not living any dream that a mother would have for her first born (not by any standard!).
I first asked if she was in trouble and she replied,
"No, we just need to talk".
Then call it mother's instinct, or whatever you choose, I call it God's divine discernment, but I calmly asked,
"Crystal, are you pregnant?"
All I remember her giving was a one-word reply; "Yes".

I left the private small office of the owner and walked out to the main floor and started back with my presentation of the tax lecture and believe me it was God's Grace and a miracle that helped me finish the next hour and a half. I looked at the clock and told the student that we would meet back on Thursday morning and the assignment was on the board. But my assignment was just beginning. I had no idea what an assignment God had placed upon me for if I had, I don't think I would have made it home. Well, it ended up that I didn't go home. I left and went up the road about a mile from the office to the bank and just really was not sure what to do. I went through the drive thru window and made my deposit and started back in the same direction to go home. Then something inside me returned to the office where no one but the owner was there. I walked in and all I remember was starting to cry. Larry, my boss asked, "Gloria, what is wrong? I replied that Crystal was pregnant. Now of course no one at the office dare know that she was living with a black man and ruin my reputation! The pregnancy alone was enough! I had to keep my Christian image here! Larry hugs me and shared that he was married when his girlfriend got pregnant, now still his wife, and he knew that they hurt both their parents with their actions, as he now had a teen age daughter himself. Wow, I never knew that, must have been a "God thing." Boy, I still didn’t have a clue yet!

Well let me jump here about 3 months and tell you that Crystal's boyfriend had a heart attack. He was just thirty, and this just didn’t seem quite right. Anyway he was out of work due to the heart attack and had to return to his mothers to live, and Crystal, my strong willed child who left at 17 years old was finally back home, now at 20 with child, and pregnant with a biracial child at that. Of course it was much later and surgery to put in a pacemaker down the road to discover that he was a drug user and the heart attack was drug induced. Anyway, now I had to learn to accept that my first grandchild would be born without a mother and daddy like she was "suppose" to have. Plus how could I possible tell my family and friends about this baby and go out in public in the Deep South with a BI-racial baby? This is not going to be easy. Man, I still had no clue.

Well, time passed, and Crystal had been sick with a cold when she first came home. Other than that, I guess things were going pretty well. I was trying to accept this the best I could, but of course, I didn't talk about it.

Crystal and I were going to Lamaze, I was her coach and it was going to be okay. I would learn to deal with it - but for now, I would just rather not think about it at all.
