Things you should be aware of:
- The scheduale
This years scheduale is filled with activities. Since this is a long
event i figured that it should contain lots of fencing activities.
However, things can happend... and most likely they will. Hopefully
we can pull of all of the activities. But there might be some changes.
Try to be in time for the activity you want to participate in. Hopefully
there will be no delays and everything will run smoothly.
- Inspections
There is one oppurtunity for inspection each day. You will need to
have your whole gear inspected once for the duration of the event,
and your weapons need to be inspected before the start of each activity.
Please, try to make it to the schedualed inspections. If you do, the
chance of us starting in time is greater. In worst case you will have
to wait untill we can inspect you.
- Authorization
This is a long event, there is time for practise and opportunities
for authorization. If you want to authorize in a weapon combination
then please notify a marshal at the event. If you can´t find
any, contact me (Mans), and
I will arrange for a authorization at one of the inspection slots
in the scheduale.
- Kill from behind
During all melées "Kill from behind" will be allowed.
A kill from behind is performed by placing your blade on the opponents
shoulder (from behind) and shouting "Kill from behind".
If you are coming up on someones side (180 degrees), then play it
safe! Use your judgement and figure what is the safest cause of action.
Engaging the
opponent (making sure that he knows that i´m there) or coming
up on his back performing a kill from behind. It is
NOT permitted to thrust or cut someone with who you are not
engaged! We will demonstrate the proper way to perform a kill from
behind at the start of each melée.
- Melée behaviour
Melées can be confusing. The environment is not controlled
and the room for accidents is larger. Here are some easy rules and
advice that all should know and follow:
-Never take of your mask when there is a melée in progress.
It doesn´t matter if your out. DO NOT TAKE OF YOUR MASK!
- Signal when you are out (dead) by placing your weapon over your
head. Again, DO NOT REMOVE YOUR MASK!
- If the situation demands it, die defensivly! If you do not know
how, ask the marshals!
- If the situation permits it, when dead, back out of the situation
clearly signaling that you are out.
- Dead men do not talk!
- Do not hesitate to call out a "Hold!" if you think the
situation demands it!
- If someone falls, do not thrust or cut them. If you feel that you
must attack them, perform a "Kill on the ground". If you
do not know how, ask the marshals!
- Helping out?
Help is appreciated. Please look at the "What can i do to help"
page for more information.
- Default blade
In many tourneys there is a default blade, that means that all fencers
must use the blade type that is default. Nordmark is primarly a light
blade community (foil is most commen), but the schlager fencers are
growing in number. During the planned melees all fencing will be with
light blades.
