BUY OUR RECORDS
Just for the fun of it
BUY OUR RECORDS and the shore based MUTHA RECORDS have been credited as the first labels putting New Jersey's Hardcore scene on vinyl. Beginning in 1981, members of A.O.D. and BEDLAM were the label's founders. A.O.D.'s Paul Richards came up with the name as the band released it's debut EP "Let's Barbeque". The initial A.O.D. release was followed up by other records by A.O.D.'s compatriots, friends, and bands that they all just liked. Records by MENTAL DECAY and MY 3 SONS followed. Whereas the Mutha bands were a bit more "intense", the B.O.R. bands always kept "fun" as their primary theme, and in an earlier interview with founding member Lenny Sblendorio, he quoted that "Bedlam are the fore-fathers of Buy Our Records. Lenny is now in the band George Is Dead click here.
Bedlam's
Jim Dunlevy became the president of the label. Lenny Sblendorio was the label's "operations manager, and the team was rounded off by Chris Frier.
Although the label's main stays intended to stay in the garden state, the records themselves were not confined to NJ bands. Out of state bands included
P.M.S. (from N.Y.C.), F.O.D. (from PA.), and the LOVE DOLLS (from L.A.). Other B.O.R. releases included: ELECTRIC LOVE MUFFIN and BIG STICK.
Music put out by Buy Our Records don't exude a particularly serious attitude. They're friends who play and record for the fun of it - to poke fun at this and that - and would rather leave the "seriousness" to other people  - who "do it better than we do" (Lenny S.).
The listing on this page is certainly not the "be all" of the B.O.R. group.
