Grand Champion Cheeptrills Silverado (also known as the Lustrous Potentate) Silver Mackerel Tabby male born December 12, 1989 Silverado is the grand old man of our house. He is a gentle, sweet, loving cat (which is good, since at last weigh-in he topped 20 pounds!). He loves kittens, and demands to be allowed to inspect each litter as soon as they're born. He has sired numerous Grand Champions, and his offspring have been instrumental in starting some excellent lines. Although he's such a big cat, he has a sound heart and hips. He throws his size, health, and gentle disposition to his offspring. Although she has a very wild look (which we love), she's a true sweetheart. She is also the world's best mother! She could have heavier boning, but she throws good bone when bred to a large-boned male.
Evie is currently living with Jane Baldinger (Yankeecats Maine Coons) in Virginia, where she's being bred to a wonderful northeastern-lines male. Coonmora Tempest of Cheeptrills Brown Classic Tabby female born Tempest is absolutely exquisite from her long, thick lynx-tips to her plumed tail, and she knows it. She's also a world-class triller. She got her name because she blew into South Texas on a hot wind and proceeded to take over the house. Tempest has just had her first litter, out of SGC Ryanplace Boy Toy of KenKoon Her babies are brown torbie females and brown tabby males. We are indebted to Connie Zimmerman of Coonmora Maine Coons for trusting us with this lovely girl, and to Sharon and Randy Kennedy (and, of course, Boy Toy) of KenKoon Maine Coons for agreeing to allow her to be bred to Boy Toy. We will be repeating this breeding in late summer. Hey, when something works so well, might as well do it again! She's developing very nicely, and we're looking forward to seeing what she can add to our breeding program. She, too, is a beautiful girl with a loving, gentle personality spiced with a touch of naughtiness. She's got very dense boning, beautiful eyes, a strong square muzzle and chin, and excellent earset. Her daddy's nickname is "Mole" due to his propensity to burrow under things, and Noelle has inherited this trait. She loves nothing better than to burrow under blankets and robes. She's such a sweet cat and we're looking forward to the time when she will produce kittens of equally wonderful disposition and quality, hopefully sired by Boy Toy. Cheeptrills Daphne Brown Mackerel Torbie with White foundation female born October 31, 1995 out of Evie and Roscoe How we got Daphne: My husband and I were living in Somerville, MA, and had gone to Illinois to visit relatives shortly before we were due to be transferred to Washington, DC. We had left our cats in the care of a cat sitter. We had also been feeding outside a red mactabby/white feral tom, who had gotten very tame and loving after many weeks of work on our part. We named him Roscoe and gave him his shots (but didn't have him neutered because he paniced whenever we tried to put him into a carrier and we preferred not to get bitten). Roscoe would sell his soul to get into the house, but we couldn't bring him in 'cause we had our breeding girls in the house and obviously didn't want them exposed to A: An unknown, untested-for-disease-status tom or B: Any tom whatsoever. We came back from Illinois the day before the packers descended. The cats were fine; Roscoe was outside yelling for more food. We moved. Roscoe was adopted by our tenants who took him in, neutered him (after tranquilizing him to get him into a carrier), and wouldn't allow him outside. He thrived on the love and attention (a true couch potato), and is now living with them as a fat, lazy housecat. We moved to DC. Then Evie (brown classic 9-month-old-girl) developed a swollen breast and a full lower abdomen. Called the vet. Vet came over. Vet diagnosed an hysterical pregnancy, said it was not uncommon in first heat. Said she'd get over it. She did. On Oct. 31, 1995 I was hiding in the family room from trick-r-treaters, & heard a kitten squeal. "OH, NO - some dreadful kid has dropped kittens off on our doorstep!" Opened door; no kittens; searched yard; no kittens; went back inside; heard kittens; followed squeaking into my office; tracked noise to the cardboard "cat maze"; lifted cat maze; found Evie and four beautiful babies, all clean, nursing, thriving. Called vet. Said "Remember the hysterical pregnancy?" Vet said "Yes." Said "Well, we have four non-hysterical babies." Vet now has Robert The Bad (black/white), we have Daphne (brown mackerel torbie with white), and Mike's years-ago boss and his wife have Evita (brown mackerel torbie) and Kokomo Joe (black/white). This was the healthiest, most vigorous litter we've ever had, and mom did it all by herself. We don't know how Evie and Roscoe got together; the cat sitter *swears* that Roscoe never got in, but we don't believe her - love will find a way :) We're proudly using Daphne as a foundation queen to expand the Maine Coon gene pool (going through all four required generations so that fourth generation kittens can be registered as pedigreed Maine Coons). We should have named her "Nature's Miracle!" Daphne has had a litter with Connie Zimmerman's (Coonmora Maine Coons)
Coonmora's Hot
Shot. We can't thank Connie enough for agreeing that Daphne has the
quality to be used as a foundation queen, for allowing her to come to Hot
Shot, and for joining us with this foundation program. |
