Got your e-mail this morning, and was very interested in you and your "kids". But mostly in you. The "kids" will come later... Had goats on a couple of the ranches i worked on. You certainly have a wonderful website, congratulations!! I had to give up my goats and the farm since I couldn't do the work alone and my husband had died of cancer. We started out with ONE goat with horns and as mean as one can imagine due to poor treatment of a previous owner. She was a milk goat. We had mainly Saanen goats, milked, showed goats, were on milk testing, 4-H goats, we were leaders as well, and then went into Angora goats and had as many as 70 Angoras, mainly Texas stock, imported by my son. I pro cessed the mohair, dyed it and spun it. Lots of fun and lots of work. Now I only sell the rovings or tops and have a little store in my house. Keep up the good work, Hannelore

Hi! I absolutely loved this web site!!! I grew up on a small subsistence farm in upstate New York. We had no neighbors and lived on this cute little farm with a red house and barn. We had several goats throughout my life there. They were all large - I have to admit that I didn't know what kind they all were - I just loved them all!! I think one kind was called an Alpine??? Anyway, my absolute favortie goat was named Louise. She was the best goat in the world - she was so loving and friendly. She mot ered several orphaned fawns (deer babies) because my mother was a wildlife rehabilitator and that was the best milk we could find for fawns - cow's milk kills them. Anyway, Louise used to give me hugs and she would play with me when she was in the right ood. Her best animal friend was our pony, Flint. In fact, when Flint passed away, we tried to get her another goat as a friend and she hated her - she rammed her constantly - we had to keep them separated forever! I loved that goat so much and your web age made me think of her and cry - a good cry that is. I watched Louise have so many kids throughout her life - i can't even count. I used to love that blatting sound the babies would make. She passed away my junior year of high school and it was one of t e hardest things I ever went through.We moved from the farm to another house in Argyle, NY the next year and I was sad that my parents did not want another goat, but I was going away to college and did not have the right to demand they get another goat t raise for my enjoyment when I visited - understandable. I just loved this site so much but I have rambled on long enough. I am happy that you are so happy doing what you are doing. Keep up the passion and don't give in to your neighbor. Catch him tryi g to poison your dogs and turn him in before he hurts any more. I think that is just awful!!! When my husband gets his job transfer back to the east coast in Northern New York I would love to get another goat or two so my son can enjoy them as much as I id. Maybe I can give you a call then! He is getting a kick out of his goatling , as we call them, but we would love to hear from other Angora raisers, as we are isolated and very new at this! How easily do they gentle down? Good Morning! What a lovely page! I just had the bug about goats put into my ear last night and I am getting more and more excited. I have gone from wondering whether to work with cattle or horses to forgetting about both (except to get a couple of sad le horses) and am focusing on goats. At times I yearn for your lifestyle after raising 4 children (3 boys and a girl-all grown now). I have had goats for nearly 12 years. It all started with one wether for my son's 4-H project. He is now 21 and guess who still raises and shows goats - yep! this old mom and pop. I have Sunpiper Pygmy Goats. What do you do with your goats? Do you spin or weave? Would love to hear from you. We got 2 4 day old pygmys last spring and lost one in october in the pond. Last summer we got the Lamancha which is 6 yrs old and a trained packgoat..He goes hiking with us and carries lunch and extra clothes and everything needed to make the trek more en oyable..He is also great company when I am hiking alone.

I started with the goats 2 years ago. Bought a herd of 16 nubian & alpine grades. None registered. Got a wealth of education with them. So decided to buy some reg. stock and try my hand at breeding for better dairy stock. Have done quite well, if I do sa so myself. This year have got 6 bucks & 4 does so far with 12 more nannies to freshen. Am loving every minute of it. And I must say am still learning. I know absolutely nothing about angoras: do you have problems with the long hair? Do they get sheared y arly, like sheep? Would love to hear about them. Helen
