Marion Lafayette Phillips

Marion Lafayette Phillips was after whom my grandfather was named.

Originally named Ray Bethel Phillips, Grand Daddy's name was changed when his Grandfather Hoots came to visit shortly after Grand Daddy's birth, he was renamed Marion for Marion Lafayette Phillips and Lowery for William Lowery Hoots.

Answer to "Whatever happened to Lilydale, Tennessee?" Located in Pickett County, TN, Lilydale was destroyed when the Tennessee Valley Authority constructed Dale Hollow Lake. Most of its residents relocated to Cumberland County and Clinton Counties in KY and Overton, Pickett, and Fentress Counties in TN. Buried family members were exhumed, and reburied at other locations, including the government cemetery on Amonett Ridge just outside of Byrdstown, TN.
