| Throughout history, there have been women (and men, but women are better known for it) who, lacking any significant or socially applicable skill, have used their looks to get them what they want, be it money, power, or revenge. Most of these reprehensible individuals are mundanes, normal humans with no knowledge of the supernatural horrors that run rampant in the back alleys and vast wildernesses of the world. A few, however, have some level of magical or psychic ability which they use to augment their already potent powers of seduction and beguilement. While many Seductresses are hookers and call-girls, others act the part of the dutiful wife (or love-smitten mistress) in order to better keep tabs on their chosen patsy. | |||||||||||||||
| Mundane Seductresses (males are called Seducers and are very rare) use solely their looks and acting ability to garner that which they desire. Those with magical abilities are most often savants, people with the innate power to cast spells with no knowledge of the processes behind the act. A few, however, are former acolytes or apprentices that got the notion to use their limited powers for deeds somewhat grander than getting slaughtered by extradimensional beings or turned into toads. These have usually stolen some of their former employer/teacher's spells or equipment and run away. Finally are the psychic Seductresses: psirens (if you'll forgive the pun) that can lure men (or women) to their ruin with a sly look, a whiff of perfume, and a subtle hypnotic suggestion. Psychics who choose to follow the path of seduction develop a few unique psionic powers, such as the ability to induce pleasure. | |||||||||||||||
| Seductresses are not recommended as player characters, as they are liars, thieves, and cutthroats only out for themselves. They have no regard for the people they hurt ("marks," "patsies") and little or no regard for themselves. (Many psychologists suggest that those that become prostitutes and gigolos do so not so much for the money or power as they do for a boost to their self-esteem or as an emotional substitute.) The only people that Seductresses will have any compassion or respect for will be others of their art, master manipulators (human or not), and supernatural beings, who are generally seen as too savvy or too dangerous to trick. As an interesting note, almost all Seductresses are bisexual. This is believed to be a result of their training in the art of theft from the unwary. (ie: "It don't matter if you're a dude or a chick--either way, you're still a mark.") |
