Reading the Bible
There are many theological people who may not truly understand the Bible. The Bible tells us that not many should assume to be teachers " 不要多人作師父". We should therefore not follow too many "teachers". By the end of the day, they may be wrong more times than we know. I am aiming at reading the Bible as many times as I am allowed by the Lord, apart from the things that I should do normally, in this life. May all of us continue to read more of the Lord's word without using external aids. I start reading the Bible all over again without using any explanatory notes.
There are certain places in the Book where you can ignore temporarily if you cannot figure out what they mean at the time (Luke 2:50)and also there are places where they may not be so important because they are already histories. It is not so urgent to memorize exactly where a Bible verse comes from.(Luke 4:4,4:8,4:12). I ask the Lord to give me more wisdom in reading His Word. Certainly it is good to use explanatory materials sometimes but not too often.
Personally I have never found any of the Bible reading schedules printed by some publishers to be of any use to me. Rather, when I read the Bible through from page one to the last page continuously without skipping I found that to be of tremendous value to my understanding of the Lord’s Word.
My name is Veronica. I am a Christian. Jesus Christ is my best friend.
My father was from Zhejiang province. Some of our ancestors were teachers and some fishermen. I studied medicine for 3 & 1/2 years before some social injusitce befell me and I switched to do civil engineering. I qualifications in civil engineering and Linguistics and I went to Bible College as well. I was ordained as apastor in April 2001. I have a cousin who was admitted to Beijing University to read medicine (western medicine). Because of her good grades, she was given some financial assistance as a bonus from the Government. But she turned down Beijing University and went to Hangzhou University instead since the latter was nearer to her hometown. This is the only case where I heard people declining Beijing University's offer.
Perhaps there is not so much point in bragging about how well one does academically. The Bible tells us not to boast about anything but our knowledge of the Lord. People new to Christianity like boasting about achievemnets, how much $$ they possess, or simply how fit they are physically (I know of a Chinese sister in Shanghai who liked boasting about her physical health. But the last time I rang her, she had cancer.)
My mother's parents were rich merchants from Shanghai. She is a very simple person with not many wants, she is not concerned about nice clothes, delicate food, being in the limelight or not when she is in the midst of a group of people. She is just a well-contented person despite her many shortcomings. Also people of that age did not have the habit of chasing after men for marriage when they were young, good for them.
