It's Flicka II off to a winning start..
Saturday saw 9 yachts entered for the first of five races in the Series.  Nine yachts out of a possible 15 or so........

Those that missed it, missed a fantastic afternoon on the water. The breeze was testing, offering light conditions with the odd "blast" which  left one guessing..

Race Officer of the day, was Keith Gerson, and he was assisted by Ronnie Burgerhoff of Durban, who is new to the bridge but who did a great job supporting Keith.  Favourites for Line had to be Anton Ellens and  his crew Peter, on Tantrum the L20, whilst in the Hunter fleet  was fairly wide open and there for the taking, with Witblitz out due to her skipper putting in a Bridge duty.  The 2nd non-Hunter was Oran Mor, the H23, skippered by Ash Hanbury but "commanded" by Rear Admiral(ess) Alix Hanbury and they were assisted by a Theology Student!!!    H2O was there , skippered by dad, Kurt and crewed by  son Waz, whilst mom was crewing for Graham Keir on Snowgoose.  Paradigm Shift, skippered by Rob McIntosh was crewed by Tim Duguid (new owner/skipper of Artemis who was out on hard still).  Hans Schroeder sailed Atalanta singlehanded, and it would be great to him securing a permanent Crew..   The carguards were back on Tripple II, after a week's sail training course with "Ocean Sailing" in Durban, and were determined to show us all up.

The Bridge started the race bang on time, and were dealt an unkind blow when the wind shifted and made the best start position the Pin end of the line.  First over the line was Paradigm Shift, right on the committee boat but on starboard, with 2nd boat being Rumblebum on Port off the Pin.  The rest of the fleet got tangled horribly in the middle of the line.

Most of the fleet sailed up toward the wall before tacking onto the windward mark, whilst Rumblebum took a chance and sailed up the middle of the course gaining about 100m on the fleet and rounding the mark first followed by Flicka II.   At the gybe mark it was Rumblebum, Flicka II, Tantrum, Paradigm Shift, Tripple II.  This was also where a lack of communication between skipper and crew of Snowgoose saw their spinnaker in the water causing a long delay in their race.

Apart from Paragidm Shift who gained steadily on the others, the positions remained more or less static until the end of the race, with Rumblebum finishing almost 5 min before Paradigm Shift,  who in turn finished seconds ahead of Flicka II.
