Sam Gamgee is the gardener at Bag-End, and Frodo's best friend. Sent with Frodo to Rivendell by Gandalf The Grey, Sam proves his loyalty by sticking with Frodo no matter what. Sam is fascinated by the elves, and more than anything wants to see them. And Sam will get his wish as they travel to Rivendell. He, like Frodo, is enchanted by Bilbo's tales of dragons and gold. The barmaid at the Green Dragon Inn, Rose Cotton, has also taken Sam's fancy, however he is too shy to go up to her, and prefers to just sit and drink ale. Quiet, solid and dependable, Sam is the perfect compainion on this quest, and he may be a little over-protective of Frodo, as is Frodo with Sam
