Today I visited the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum.
It had three stories of displays, exhibits, films, interactive items on the history of Texas. Stuff I never knew about (or had forgotten.) A very nice museum and if you're ever in the area, please spend a half day visiting this place. There was an IMAX theater and I saw a movie on Texas (of all things!)

The tour of Minute Maid Park was splendid. They offered tours at 10, 12, and 2. I tried to make the 10 am one, but hit horrific Houston traffic. Didn't get to the ballpark till 10:20. So I waited for the 12 pm one. It was worth the wait. |

In this photo, in lower left corner, is a 'manual scoreboard.' Is the Citgo sign a tribute to Fenway? Tour guide didn't mention that. On the lower right, you'll see an old Conoco 'gas pump.' This records the number of home runs Astro's players hit since the opening of the ballpark. It was up in the 560's or 580's (I forget).
You can see the area around the ballpark is being developed. The park sits in downtown Houston. |

Ever so slightly, in the mid very left side of photo, you can see a piece of a brick building. This building was Union Station back when trains traveled through Houston. On the very top (you can see a piece) is what is known as 'Terrace View.' One can sit there and watch the game, similar as they do at Wrigley.
And, of course, you can see the train to the right of the Citgo sign. It drives back and forth, at 3 miles per hour, after an Astro's run. The things in the train are oranges... Minute Maid. Get it? |
