1:43 PM 2/14/03 Exclusive Snake Anime News!!!  As it appears on the Coming Attractions website. I swear this movie has me sooooo pumped! Gonna go see Daredevil later on today too!

CA Exclusive: Snake Gets Animated

8:13 PM 2/5/03 Snake Anime Details!!! The who, the when, and the where of the Snake Plissken anime courtesy of Ain’t It Cool. I was hoping the storys in the anime would take after EFNY, not EFLA.

The latest on Snake Plissken!

8:38 PM 1/16/03 HAPPY BIRTH DAY JC!!! Sheesh, this place is deader than the flies laying near my sweat socks….oh well…I thought it was kinda dead too….nice to know I came up on the birthday wishes on time this year! He’s 55!

7:37 PM 10/28/02 60 Seconds on AMC!!! More confirmation on the AMC Halloween brouhaha involving JC. Courtesy of JonS’ two emails sent today.

You can’t jump or look up in THE THING PS2 video game (that bites!)

Hey Mohammad,

Just thought I would let you know that some of those 60 Second Screams are up at amctv.com, located in the screening room section. There is also an introduction from Carpenter.

 Thanks for the great site,

Jon Solita

Email deux from JonS….

I forgot to mention this in my last e-mail... Carpenter is hosting the 60 Second Screamers show that airs on Halloween night at midnight... well, depending on your time-zone its midnight. Unlike the Halloween Backstory, this appears to be only scheduled once so make sure you tune in.

1:27 PM 10/26/02 JC on AMC!!! News on JC appearing on the AMC channel, I wonder if this has anything to do with the Backstory show he’ll be appearing on as well (see JCTV) From an email by Dedrick.

Hello,

The American Movie Classics channel is having Monsterfest starting OCt. 18 and JC is hosting a show throughout called something like 60 second screamers, where they give directors 60 seconds to scare you. I checked the schedule and there are no scheduled times for it to air so I think it will be during commercial breaks. It should be good from what I saw on the commercial.

11:26 PM 9/19/02 Lose Hours on The Thing!!! A glowing review of the new PlayStation game. From Corona Coming Attractions.

"The Thing" Reviewed For the PS2

6:10 PM 9/8/02 The Thing PS2 Commercial!!! Imagine my surprise yesterday while watching television. As the commercials came on I found myself watching the PlayStation 2 commercial for The Thing playing. It went by quite fast but I was impressed nonetheless. You even get to hear Ennio Morricone’s theme as well as the burn-title sequence. The game plays up on the paranoia aspect of not being able to trust your teamates and the only monster from the clip I can remember seeing was some guy with his head busted open like some giant flower. The tag line to the commercial? “No one survives alone.”

As a side note, I’ve started a new website for some time. It’s all about horror short story reviews I’ve done and continue to do. If you’re interested in such a topic then by all means, drop by The Conqueror Review.

6:26 PM 9/4/02 Universal Has Not Offered The Thing 2 to JC!!! At least that’s what JC is saying so rumors of his excessive $$ demands are false. What else is Uni hiding I wonder? From Ain’t It Cool.

So What Does John Carpenter Think About This THING 2 Buzz Going Around The Web?

9:27 PM 8/30/02 John Carpenter Talks About EFNY DVD Bank Robbery!!! The missing scene is being worked on as we speak and here is a quote from Carpenter. From an excerpt of Mister Jon Doe’s email on the ITMOM list on 8/27/2002

"We actually found the opening 10 minutes that I had cut out of the
picture, and I've scored it and we've put some sound effects on it,"
he said. "It will be on the DVD, along with Kurt and I commentating."

The Fog - Remake!!! Yes, John Carpenter and Debra Hill are at it again, peddling a remake of The Fog of all things! From Dark Horizons by way of the Creature Corner.

The Fog

The Thing – Part 2!!! Universal is kicking up dust that they might be interested in a Thing sequel what with all the hoopla around the new PlayStation game reviews being so good and all as well as the pictures cult following. The studio also is in interested in John’s idea about directing it, but it appears Carpenter is balking due to $$. I don’t give a shit who directs this, it just sounds like a bad idea, The Thing is quite literally the Holy Grail of John’s films and there’s nothing, I don’t care how good it is that could top what the original did. Nothing period. And with JC’s recent shoddy directorial efforts, a new director might be needed. Either way, this is a losing proposition but don’t get me wrong I still love the idea that someone is stupid enough to tackle it and offering fans something. It’s just, scary the implications of what the end result might be. Read on at the new page dedicated to the sequel. From Coming Attractions.

"Thing"s to Come?

8:51 PM 8/23/02 Pack of Lies!!! As per the scoop below there’s a new anti-smoking campaign set up by the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center that incorporates  THEY LIVE in one of its “commissioned artwork to be mass-distributed“Courtesy of Mark Lenahan’s email on the ITMOM list.

There is a new anti-smoking campaign and the centerpiece is a poster using a scene from "They Live".

You can see the artwork at

7:23 PM 8/6/02 Big Trouble Figures!!! Pictures of the BTILC gang in full plastic glory! Seems like we’re relegated to six of them, hope I’m wrong but they look cool. My McFarlane Snake Plissken sits atop my monitor as I type this and even thoug he doesn’t “look” like Kurt Russell he still gives his approval. Thanks to Dedrick’s email to me today.

Hello,

I love your website and just thought I'd let you know that there is an update and new pictures of the BTILC figures at:

12:05 PM 8/5/02 More on Snake Plissken's Return!!! We find out that the death of the ill fated EFNY tv show is behind the reknewed flurry of activity on Snake Plissken merchandise recently reported in the WWW. As such the article below provides a little more clarity on this issue and the direction the anime films will go in. From Cinescape Online.

7:09 PM 7/31/02 The Voice & Face Behind Plissken in Anime & in Video Games!!! Did you know that Kurt Russell will be providing the voice for Snake in the new anime feature coming out? Or that Russell himself will be providing motion capture moves to be scanned for a possible 2004 video game? Now this is some cool ass news. From The Hollywood Reporter and Sci Fi Wire. You can do it put your ass into it, I can do it put your back into it – yeah!

AICN COMICS, TV and MORE: San Diego - Snake Plissken is Back!

Snake Plissken Goes From Film To Comics

SNAKE PLISSKEN COMIC

1:30 PM 7/28/02 John Carpenter's Snake Plissken Chronicles!!! Coming Attractions breaks news on a new comic book series based on Snake Plissken. Here’s where to link to it. My only problem? The title sounds like a rip off of the film sequel to PITCH BLACK called THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK. Well, if we can’t have another film sequel **cough** bastard escape from l.a. **cough** then comics are the next best thing. I certainly hope they make Snake look like Kurt Russell. This might just get me back into collecting comic books again! Iron Man forever!!!! Hehe….From Coming Attractions.

I've created a new thread about this story on our message forums which will tell you all the info you're dying to know. Dig in, pardner. It's back to Blue Crush for me.

Patrick@CA

Snake's Special Edition!!! Friday’s edition of Corona’s Test Pattern has some amazing information about the EFNY DVD coming down next year. Here are some of my favorite quotes, click them to go straight to the article. From Test Pattern.

Okay, it comes out in January and will have some features, but three for sure:

Well, the movie originally opened with Kurt Russell's character Snake Plissken attempting to rob a bank and his run from the cops until hes got. Its a big scene and has only been shown in snippets on that SE VHS copy that New Line Cinema made a couple of years ago, and some even speculated it was lost for good.

Well, its not and the ENTIRE deleted scene will be on the DVD."

8:05 PM 7/19/02 Weedkiller Douses Triffid Rumor!!!: The Day of the Triffids remake? Not going to happen, and why should it? I remember seeing a completely engrossing BBC adaptation in the mid to late eighties that was awesome. From an email by Craig H.

Hi, Mohammad,

Thought I'd keep you up to date about the rumour I told you previously of JC being involved in a 'Triffid' remake.

  Well, alas, it isn't true.

I recently got an e-mail from JC's personal assistant, who was very kind in contacting me. She wrote that this wasn't true but they were currently looking at a new project.

I replied, very politely, and tried to get some more info on this and, you never know, may get a response. I wasn't expecting a personal response the last time so fingers crossed, eh?

It was great that JC's folks spend the time to reply to fan's queries, and I'm just sorry that I gave you and others wrong information. So, many apologies, folks.

Anyhoo, I will let you know if I have any news on the new project. It may be more exiting than the 'Triffid' film, anyway. But that did sound so cool!

  Cheers for now,

                        Craig.

11:30 PM 7/15/02 Vampires: Los Muertos Trashed!!!: The straight to video sequel to JC’s Vampires is soundly thrashed in the following reviews, the first from a Matt G’s post on the ITMOM list last Saturday, the other courtesy of AICN as of today.

You're right, that is the business, and you might think it's crappy but if you look at it this way, the studio put up the money to do the film, so

it's pretty much up to them what they decide to do with it.

And after watching the movie, I have to agree with the studio decision, an no offense to Mr. Wallace, but there was no amount of post work in the

world that could have made that movie a viable theatrical release. The story is pretty much a retelling of the first one but without any

edge and on a way smaller budget. Instead of James Woods and his team, we get Bon Jovi who says I'm the lone Ranger and I work alone. again there's the

master vampire and the black cross, but we've seen it all before. There's absolutely no new ground covered here.

One major problem is (and there are several), Jon looks so uncomfortable in a lead role and he gives his performance a rounded off fuzzy edge to it. It makes you long for James Woods to pop up and scream the F word at him a few dozen times.

There are a few sequences, like the original, that tease that this ould have be okay and maybe interesting, but it never takes foot. Instead we  get a lot of those half second nightmare flashes of people doing nasty things and vampires moving at super speed and more then one subplot and style borrowed from the already failed Vampire movie, The Forsaken. I can't really say that logic takes a back seat during this movie, because quite frankly, I don't even think it ever gets into the car. It's okay, neither does continuity, a plot line, acting, etc. etc.Tommy Lee Wallace might have dreamt that this could have gone theatrical and that very well may have been the intent. Like I said previously, Bon  Jovi is a bankable talent, but they just needed to take the script in a new direction instead of traveling down the well worn roads of cliché like the female love interest whose also been bitten, will she turn into a vampire? Will she attack? Or how about the kid teenage sidekick who just happens to be an excellent spear thrower?

On the whole, I say it's worth checking out if you're a hard core JC fan, but then again, you might be better off just popping in the original instead of this extremely tired and flat version.

7:12 PM 7/1/02 New JC Rumor Sprouting!!!: Wow, this site is jumping with news something CRAZY MAD ya know? Hehehe….Well I’ll be damned, 2002 still has some JC news to report & I’ll leave the crux of DVD news to the boys at Marc Bright’s or Stefan Bommelin’s page, they do a good job at that kind of stuff, I’ll stick to the smaller stuff. Like this below, one of the more bizarre rumors I’ve heard before but that could work as an ensemble piece a la BTILC. Thanks to an email from Craig in the UK.

Hi,

I've just heard the JC may be reuniting with Kurt to make a 'Day Of The Triffids' remake.

Could this be true?

Thought I'd let ya know.

Cheers,

Craig (UK)

7:48 PM 1/29/02 More Cinematheque Q&A!!!: More info regarding this celebration of JC’s work including some disheartening news for EFNY fans. JC once and for all confirms that the opening footage of the Bank Robbery scene is gone, nonexistent and will NEVER be seen. Damn! And to add insult to injury how about the EFNY series? Dead. Not gonna happen as per JC. Well geeze, I mean I’m glad someone decided to inform the fans (dumbass studios).  Read on about what else was said. From Ain’t It Cool News.

8:05 PM 1/17/02 Birthdays, News, & Goodbye!!!: Yesterday was JC’s birthday, happy birthday old boy (he’s 54). My longstanding tradition of not posting news of JC’s birthday on time on this site is legendary, I’m always off by days, hours whatever. Usually I chalk it up to my forgetfulness but this year I had a good reason as my grandfather passed away on January 14 (my little brother’s birthday – happy birthday Omar!) and I was summoned away from town all of a sudden and got back today

Anyway, news slated for January 14 th is below, courtesy of Dark Horizons.

And finally happy new year to my darling wife as well, I love ya baby! Here’s a wet one for ya! *SMOOCH*

And now, onto the news….

Hey,

In the playstation 2 game Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty; the main character Solid Snake says during the game that his name is Plissken. Given that his codename is Snake, i'm guessing this is a homage to the great anti-hero Snake Plissken. Just thought i would let you know about it. I love the site. Thanks

Styx

11:03 PM 12/18/01 Angel/Carpenter reference!!!: I really have stopped watching network television in lieu of my newest fave, the SCREAM network, all horror all freaking day! But that doesn’t mean that cool dudes like KenP don’t watch it though. From his email from last Monday, December 17th, sorry for the lateness.

Not sure if you heard about or saw Angel last Monday but -

There is a scene where characters Wesley and Gunn are about to face an onslaught of demons and vampires who are breaking into their office.  Wesley comments that he is visualizing himself as John Wayne in Rio Bravo and asks Gunn who he is thinking of and Gunn says "Austin Stoker - Assault on Precinct 13"

Thought I'd try to find out where (if) one can obtain a copy of the movie for showing at a cinema so that I can forward the information to them (and increase the chances of it beeing screen)!

If you can help, THANKS! :)

Los Muertos not gory!!!: Seeing as how gory Vampires was (and that was half the fun) I don’t think non-gore is the way to go with its sequel. But who knows, maybe Bon Jovi just doesn’t wanna muss up his hairdo with a lot of projectile goo. From Dark Horizons.

Vampires: Los Muertos: Jon Bon Jovi told Dallas radio station 106.1 that the "Vampires" sequel is currently filming in Mexico, there's hardly any gore and the release date is still locked in on Halloween this year.

9:01 PM 2/5/01 Documentary Request!!!: Below is an email I got from documentary film maker Julien Vincent. If anyone can answer his request I’d appreciate you dropping me a line or emailing him.

Dear Sir,

My name is Julien Vincent. I am a French director doing a 60 minute documentary on JC. I have been on the set of GOM to see John, and I will return in L.A. in March to continue filming.

I am looking for an information and you might be able to help me out since you are a true fan.

Do you know if there has been in the US a true, serious documentary on JC, that goes in depth and talks about his films, JC's personality, about fear, and about JC's passion for cinema ?

I am not talking about JC's television appearances, or 20 minute TV shows about him, but about a true one hour serious documentary.

I need to know this information in order to know if there is a market for my film in the US.

Please answer me as soon as you can to this adress: jdworld@hotmail.com

Kind regards,

Julien Vincent

6:42 PM 1/29/01 Jamie Blanks – EFNY director???: I’ve never been a fan of Jamie Blanks, but seeing as how he’s the one behind flicks like the forthcoming Valentine and the legendarily bad Urban Legend I think I’ll get a nod of understanding from you. Still that doesn’t help me stomach this news I’m hearing that he might helm the new EFNY series. I mean, there doesn’t seem to be much talent anywhere when it comes to good genre scifi heroes really if you think about it, the guys who botched up the Robocop series from a few years back and the recent telefilms (yeah, you Julian Grant!) they just don’t get it. These directors are just doing basic cookie cutter jobs of going through the motions when it comes to a tv series. Either they’re that bad or the networks are that restrictive. And where the hell did the news that Sydney might come up as a shooting location for the new series? From Dark Horizons.

Valentine & Jamie Blanks' Next: Smilin' Jack Ruby talked with Aussie Director Jamie Blanks about his new film "Valentine" and what's been happening with it. Asked about actress Katherine Heigl's statement that her opening scene was 'trimmed', Blanks says: " A lot of the deaths were trimmed. I submitted my director’s cut to the MPAA and received an "R" rating with the violence intact. Warners was leery of all the blood because of the political climate at the time so we did some digital clean-up and removed a lot of the blood. In one of the later kills, when a girl is thrust down on broken glass, ironically the blood pooled out into the shape of a heart. We had to cut that". Sadly the foreign versions will suffer from the same cuts as well, though "there may be scenes added on the DVD". His next project will likely be more in the supernatural thriller vein (ala "The Fog"), but in the meantime he may direct one or two episodes of the "Escape from New York" TV series, especially if it's shot in Sydney as has been considered. Damn, he'd be a great director to helm "The Mist" if Frank Darabont gives it up.

Los Muetos news!!!: Hmmm…Dark Horizons seem to be brimming w/JC related news today. Here we have a report from on the set. Not much detail except there are a lot of axes lying around in the scene mentioned. From Dark Horizons.

Vampires: Los Muertos: 'Goyo' has an update from Central America: "I live in Mexico and today in school I heard something about Jon Bon Jovi filming near the school in a church. I'm a movie fan and I LOVE John Carpenter's films, so I went there and saw over 30 Bon Jovi fans had beaten me to it. It was a big church with trucks and all that sh*t outside, the principal door was closed so we couldn't see anything of the filming, we were all waiting for John to come out. I was there about an hour and finally I stood up and got a little closer. I got inside the church when the guards weren´t looking, took cover and SAW EVERYTHING. I suppose they where shooting a final scene or something because what I saw what looked like a bunch of wood burning. Bon Jovi was sitting talking with someone while I also saw a lot of axes so I suppose there will be deaths with some axes".

10:16 PM 1/19/01 More info on The Thing on PS2!!!: Consider this an addition to what we already know about THE THING video game, thanks to today’s news from Marc Bright’s page. The news is old, but hey, we’re talking THE THING on PS2. The PS2 units are so popular in fact that in today’s local news there was a report on how a local computer shop was robbed, not for money but for the Playstations they had in stock, the third such robbery in 3 weeks. Sigh, reminds me of the good old Nintendo 64 days, oops, showing my age, better shut up. From Cubespin.

The Thing:

The classic science fiction moves to Gamecube. The Game begins exactly where the film left off. It will probably be an action/horror type game.

"The Thing is a phenomenal franchise that gamers have been requesting for a long time. This franchise presents an incredible opportunity to draw upon Universal’s rich movie history and today’s technology to create a one-of-a-kind gaming experience," said Jim Wilson, senior vice president and general manager, Universal Interactive Studios.

8:53 PM 1/19/01 'Los Muertos' Casting!!!: I had no idea ‘hottie in the making’ Natasha Gregson Wagner was in this flick? Perhaps she’ll be a delectable vampire a la Sheryl Lee, or maybe she’ll be a female vampire slayer. Adding a flavorful mix is the news about Cristian de la Fuente. From the always reliable Cinescape Online.

'Los Muertos' Casting

Cristian de la Fuente (Family Law) is the latest addition to the cast of Screen Gems and John Carpenter's Vampires: Los Muertos project, according to Variety. The trade does not reveal what role the actor will play in the coming film. The film, which stars Jon Bon Jovi and Natasha Gregson Wagner under the direction and script of Tommy Lee Wallace, is currently shooting on location in Mexico City.

Bon Jovi Will Vamp for Carpenter Picture

By Dana Harris

HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - Rocker Jon Bon Jovi, currently in theaters with ``Pay It Forward,'' has been cast as the lead in ''John Carpenter's Vampires: Los Muertos.''

Production will begin early next year on locations in Mexico. The project is being developed by Screen Gems, the mid-budget arm of Sony Pictures.

``Jon has terrific screen presence and sex appeal and the acting chops to match,'' Screen Gems executive VP Clint Culpepper said.

Bon Jovi's recent credits include ``U-571'' and ``No Looking Back.'' His eponymous band will be performing at next year's Super Bowl.

Carpenter's credits include the 1998 ``Vampires,'' starring James Woods. Screen Gems recently completed principal photography on the sci-fi action film ``John Carpenter's Ghosts of Mars,'' which stars Natasha Henstridge, Ice Cube and Jason Statham. It will be released next summer.

8:32:57 PM 8/31/00 Snake Plissken TV Series Rumor!!!: Sounds highly speculative, yet makes for an interesting read nonetheless. From scooper AudreyM.

I recently learned that Bob Hauk will be a regualr in the 'Escape from NY' series.  Apparently Snake will eventually kill him as he said he would in the movie. A device controlled by a terrorist group is responsible for global man-made disasters. Earthquakes, typhoons, etc.  And somehow Snake is once again left with no option but to work for el presidente.  I wonder if this device is responsible for L.A.?

She doesn't entirely agree with the story arc being used (same here, but then again fans can start a grass roots campaign to get better stories made). Some Snake is better than no Snake for now, if the producers muck this puppy up you can bet your brass balls I'm going to start raising some kind of stink about it here.

"Escape" to the Tube

Kurt Russell is giving his B-movie, eye-patched mercenary hero, Snake Plissken, just what he deserves--his own television series.

Russell is reteaming with the filmmakers who made the original Escape from New York--writer-director John Carpenter and producer Debra Hill--to executive produce a new hourlong syndicated TV version, according to the Hollwood Reporter.

In the 1981 sci-fi cult classic, Snake--condemned criminal and former war hero--wins his freedom by rescuing the President from a group of convicts after his plane is shot down over New York, which has been turned into a giant penal colony. Russell and company want the new series to introduce a new generation of fans to the character he made famous in the original and its 1996 sequel, Escape from L.A.

"It's exciting to reinvent a movie for a whole new generation of people," Hill tells the Reporter. "It's exciting to try to figure out a way to keep that story line going for 100 episodes."

Russell will not be acting in the series, however. Producers are already searching for a new Snake in hopes to have the show to debut sometime in the 2001 television season.

The small-screen version of Escape will still be set in a 21st century decimated by man-made catastrophes and surrounded by hardened criminals. This time around, though, Snake won't be running around saving politicans or their daughters from metropolitans-turned-prisons.

Instead, he'll have a more permanent job working for the President as a roving agent for the U.N., visiting surviving cities around the world and helping to bring normalcy to the devastated populace. But ultimately he must stay alive to defeat his nemesis, Police Commissioner Bob Hauk (played by Lee Van Cleef in the original).

And if the new Snake catches on, Hill says she and Carpenter would consider shooting another feature with Russell in the lead.

With New York and L.A. already proving escapable, the third installment would be a bit more challenging. The next time out, the long-in-the-tooth Snake and his charges would be pulling an Escape from Earth.

9:08 PM 7/18/00 Giving Up The Ghosts For Mars!!!

9:09 PM 7/18/00 Script Asylum: Ghosts of Mars!!!

9:08 PM 7/18/00 Snake Plissken comes to the small screen? Another dearth of ideas Escapes from LA!!!: From yesterday's edition of SFX.

Word seems to be filtering about that leather-clad troubleshooter Snake Plissken is about to join the ranks of silver screen heroes making their way down to the world of the goggle box.

US showbiz journal the Hollywood Reporter claims that a television series based on John Carpenter's Escape from... flicks is being developed, with Carpenter and Kurt Russell (the big screen Plissken) as executive producers.

The syndicated series, under the production banner of Tribune Entertainment, is being lined up for a debut sometime next year, though anyone expecting Goldie Hawn's hubby to don the leather jacket again is likely to be disappointed.

A spokeswoman for the project is reported as saying: "We are excited about working with the character (of Snake), and if it is successful (in syndication), perhaps we may do another movie.

"It's exciting to reinvent a movie for a whole new generation of people, and that is what excites us. It's exciting to try to figure out a way to keep that story line going for 100 episodes."

However, we could yet see Russell popping up with the eyepatch and leathers again at the local multiplex, with a THIRD Escape from... film on the drawing board.

Reportedly called Escape from Earth, the film's future hangs on that slim thread known as ratings success. Given the poor critical reaction that Escape from LA got a couple of years back, I'm not holding my breath...

6:37 PM 7/14/00 Plissken Snakes Onto TV!!!: From the Sci Fi Wire.

Director John Carpenter will develop a syndicated television series based on Snake Plissken, Kurt Russell's character from Carpenter's Escape from New York and Escape From L.A. movies, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Carpenter, Russell and Carpenter's longtime producing partner, Debra Hill, will executive produce the series for Tribune Entertainment for the 2001 season, the trade reported.

Russell won't reprise his role in the series, which will also be called Escape from New York. The series will mark Carpenter's first television series. It will take place in the 21st century, after natural disasters have devastated the world. The U.S. president will hire Plissken as a roving agent for the United Nations, traveling to the Earth's surviving cities to help restore normality.

If the series succeeds, Hill told the Reporter that the team might consider a third movie based on the character. The feature would be titled Escape From Earth, she said.

12:23 PM 7/14/00 SNAKE PLISSKEN RETURNS!!!!: Yes, my fucking prayers have been answered! SNAKE PLISSKEN WILL FREAKING LIVE ON GODDAMMIT!! ALL YOU X-FILES FANS & STAR WARS FANS & STAR TREK FANS & SUVRIVOR & BIG BROTHER FANS & MUST-SEE TV FANS & XENA WARRIOR PRINCESS & B5 FANS & WHOEVER THE HELL ELSE THERE ARE OUT THERE CAN STICK THAT IN YOUR PIPE & SMOKE IT. FINALLY, A REASON TO WATCH TELEVISION IS COMING MY WAY!!!! Now all they gotta do is check out my petition for Roy Dupuis as Snake if Kurt's not going to take on the role as is mentioned, talk about great fucking timing eh Roy!!!!!!???!!!!!!! From the blessed people at Cinescape Online.

Snake Plissken, the anti-hero of John Carpenter's Escape From New York and L.A., is making a return, but this time on TV. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Snake will return in a new syndicated TV series from Tribune Entertainment called Escape From New York, with a planned launch of 2001. John Carpenter, Debra Hill and Kurt Russell are involved in the project and will operate as hands on executive producers, though Russell is not expected to reprise the role of Snake for the TV series.

However; there are also plans to bring the eyepatched rogue with bad attitude back the big screen for one more film, tentatively titled Escape From Earth. Word has it that the third film's fate may hinge on the success of the syndicated TV series.

While talking to the trade, Hill explained, "We are excited about working with the character (of Snake), and if it is successful (in syndication), perhaps we may do another movie."

The producer adds, "It's exciting to reinvent a movie for a whole new generation of people, and that is what excites us. It's exciting to try to figure out a way to keep that story line going for 100 episodes."

The TV series will be set in the near future in a world devastated by man-made natural disasters. Snake Plissken is hired (or forced) by the President to become an agent fro the United Nations and wander the world in hopes of saving what's left of humanity. His ultimate goals are to survive and take down his foe, the corrupt Police Commissioner Bob Hauk.

The head writer of the series will be Howard Chaykin (Viper, American Flagg comic series).

11:44 PM 6/29/00 'BEHIND THE MASK' WITH MICHAEL MYERS!!!: From the ITMOM discussion list.

NUTMAN GOES 'BEHIND THE MASK' WITH MICHAEL MYERS

CHAOS! Comics has announced an October launch for its on-going series based on the HALLOWEEN movies.

Author Phil Nutman (Wet Work) is writing HALLOWEEN: BEHIND THE MASK, set between the climactic events of THE CURSE OF MICHAEL MYERS and H2O.

"I wanted to write something faithful to the movies," Nutman said. "While I'm not a big fan of the sequels, I felt there was material there which could be explored,  but over all I wanted to try and capture the mood and essence of John Carpenter's original film. This story explores material mentioned in the first film but never shown, specifically Michael Myers' "lost" years in the Smith's Grove asylum between the age of 6 and when he escaped in 1978."

In related news, Nutman and regular screenwriting partner Daniel Farrands (who also contributed to BEHIND THE MASK)  recently completed a treatment for ARTISAN's sequel to

STIR OF ECHOES.
