Senior Staff
Commanding Officer |
The CO is normally a command rank character (LtCmdr to Commodore, for very small ships or in an acting capacity Lieutenant). He or she is answerable to the Admiral and his/her Executive officers for the proper execution of HWF rules and orders for the entire crew. |
First Officer / Executive Officer |
The duty of the First Officer (aka Executive Officer; FO or XO) is to act as the deputy commander of the ship and to be prepared to take over the duties of the CO if necessary. He/she is second in command and will normally be one rank beneath that of the CO. |
Second Officer |
The Second Officer (2O) is the third officer in the ship's Chain of Command. He/she will take command when the CO and FO are absent. The position also allows aspiring officers to get some command experience. Usually, one of the department heads doubles as 2O. |
Chief Operations Officer |
The Chief Operations Officer (OPS) is responsibly for power and resource allocation. He has the ability to override whatever is currently happening with regards to resource allocation, to ensure that the bridge or whom every is needing the resource gets them based upon priority. |
Chief Security Officer |
The Chief Security Officer (CSO) is primarily responsible for the security of the ship and its crew. |
Chief Engineer |
The Chief Engineering Officer (CEO) is responsible for the repair, maintenance and proper functioning of the ship's physical components including engine, shields, life-support, transporters, replicators, holodecks, and shuttles. |
Flight Control Officer |
The Flight Control Officer (FCO; on starbases and stations typically called the Chief Navigation Officer or CNO) actually "drives" the ship. On HWF ships, he/she acts as the chief backup for the other bridge officers. The FCO is also the principal shuttlecraft pilot. |
Chief Medical Officer |
The ship's doctor (CMO) handles all medical matters. The CMO is secondarily responsible for the same work as the Counselor and may serve in both capacities. |
Counselor |
The Counselor (CNS) handles the ambassadorial functions including dealing with alien races and trying to make peace. He/she also looks after the crew's mental well-being. |
Chief Science Offier |
The Science Officer (CSciO) is responsible for investigations into all manner of scientific problems, both mechanical and biological. This officer also acts as a back-up for both the CMO and the CEO and either of those positions may also act as CSciO. |
