Pair set horses free of past (Sarasota, FL)
It's all about providing peace and dignity to downtrodden horses that no one else wants.

When people ask Melanie and Jim Bowles why they give so much of themselves and make so many sacrifices for the gentle beasts they harbor at their 50-acre Proud Spirit Horse Sanctuary, Melanie Bowles answers, "The purpose of life is to live a life of purpose."

ASPCA is suing Ringling Bros./Barnum & Bailey Circus (alert provided by the ASPCA)
The ASPCA is suing Ringling Bros./Barnum & Bailey Circus under the Endangered Species Act for its mistreatment of elephants.  Ringling's elephants are oftentimes beaten or "trained" with bullhooks; they are dragged around the country in hot, fetid railroad cars; and they are kept chained for as long as 20 or more hours per day.
Learn more here and ask your representatives to ban the use of circus elephants from the ASPCA web site.

Cloning, What Cost to the Animals?
Researchers are proud of the fact that they have "successfully" managed to clone a cat. With this success they claim will bring a new breed of copied cats for pets, despite the fact that there are millions of cats who already don't have homes. Researchers are also excited because they plan to use the cloned kitties for research experiments. :(  The cloning process is not pretty. Many failed attempts result in animals being born with severe deformities. It took 87 embryos to create CC the famous cloned kitten.

Doctors File Three New Complaints Over Controversial Cat Experiments
In the 1.68 million dollar study, healthy cats are infected with FIV and given binge doses of speed at U of Ohio, under the guise of helping drug addicts with HIV. Drug addicts choose to do drugs, these cats do NOT! Besides being totally unethical, this study is without merrit and misleading, as cats process drugs much differently than human beings. Voice of the Voiceless
So many gods, so many creeds,
So many paths that wind and wind,
While just the art of being kind
Is all the sad world needs.

I am the voice of the voiceless:
Through me, the dumb shall speak;
Till the deaf world's ear be made to hear
The cry of the wordless weak.

From street, from cage and from kennel,
From jungle and stall, the wail
Of my tortured kin proclaims the sin
Of the mighty against the frail.

For love is the true religion,
And love is the law sublime;
And all that is wrought, where love is not
Will die at the touch of time.

Oh, shame on the mothers of mortals
Who have not stopped to teach
Of the sorrow that lies in dear, dumb eyes,
The sorrow that has no speech.

The same Power formed the sparrow
That fashioned man - the King;
The God of the whole gave a living soul
To furred and to feathered thing.

And I am my brother's keeper,
And I will fight his fight;
And speak the word for beast and bird
Till the world shall set things right.
Ella Wheeler Wilcox,
1850-1919
