Shoulder - in

boarder

The shoulder - in is best described as " the horse moves on 3 tracks, with there shoulders brought in ". The foot fall in the shoulder -  in are as fallows. The inside track made by the inside foreleg ( ok, it's kind hard to understand but just try and fallow ), the middle track by the outside foreleg and inside hind leg together, and the outside track is made by the outside hind leg.

Riding the shoulder - in

1 . It's easiest to practice this in an arena so that you have a straight line to work along ( the wall ). To start the shoulder - in it is easiest to do the fallowing ...... Ride around a 33 foot ( 10 m ) circle twice. On the second time as soon as the horses front legs have left the track to start the circle, you uses the outside hand to prevent him from continuing on the circle, and inside leg to keep him moving forward along the side of the arena. As the horse progresses down the long side of the arena in a shoulder - in you can clearly see how he is working on the tree track ( as I talked about earlier ).

Hint : To help keep the horse moving forward in a straight line while in a shoulder - in, the rider should look straight ahead and think of her outside hip as pointing  the way forward.
