CROATIAN GLAGOLITIC DOCUMENTS
The
Baska Tablet - Bascanska ploca
1100 AD
The Baska Tablet is one of the oldest Croatian written monuments. It is
written by a so called transitive type between round and angular Glagolitic
alphabet. The Baska Tablet is about 6 feet (197cm) long and about 3 feet (99
cm) high. It was found in a church near Jurandvor on island of Krk, which is
one of the "most Glagolitic" parts of Croatia.
Hrvoje's
Missal - Hrvojev misal
1400-1425 AD
247 pages
Hrvoje's Missal is the most beautiful Glagolitic manuscript. It has 247 pages on
parchment paper with 96 miniatures and 380 initial letters.
Baromic's
Brevijar - Brevijar Blaza Baromica
1493 AD
This document is here not for it's importance to Glagolitic culture but it's
here because of it's author. Blaz Baromic, the author, is first Croatian
printer, and after him there were less and less manuscripts, so not only rich
people could have their books and be able to read Glagolitic alphabet.
The
Beram Missal - Beramski misal
1400-1450 AD
As the upper document, this one is here also because of it's author. This missal
was written by Bartol Krbavac, who was known as very good miniaturist. You can
see very beautiful miniatures on this picture.
