other day I saw an advert in the local paper for an
"Ibanez 60W valve guitar amp". Never knew Ibanez made valve (tube) amps! So I quizzed the seller on the phone. Turned out it was an "Ibanez Starfield" amplifier (with only a little Ibanez logo, see picture above). And it was made in Leeds, UK!!! With a dirty great Union Jack stencilled on the faceplate! I searched the Web and Usenet on Google and found only two (useless) references to Starfield amplifiers. But there were lots of references to Starfield guitars. Apparently the guitars were a highly regarded custom-shop line made by Ibanez in the US and Japan in the late 80s and early 90s. But the Starfield line folded after a couple of years. Nobody seems to know why. But a Starfield amp? With valves??? Now that's a mystery. Obscure it may be, but I bought it anyway. Fell in love with the sound. Paid the local equivalent of $200 for it.
