Pregnancy is a 40 week process. It is devided into three 12-week blocks called "trimesters". You are half way through the first trimester. It is during this first trimester when most of the major fetal developement occurs. By the eighth week your baby has all of his or her fingers and toes, and can freely move them. By twelve weeks all of the major organs will be present.
An ultrasound can pick up your baby's heart beat and body movement at this time. (you probably will not feel these movements for another 10 weeks.....So just be patient) Take a look at the ultrsound sample below.

What's Happening to My Body?
Good News....your breasts will get larger and more firm. The bad news.... they will be more tender too. The areolae or dark area around your nipples will get darker. It may also develope bumps.... (you can tell if someone has been pregnant before by the darkness of the areolae.) Later, about 16-20 weeks, your breast may produce a clear to cloudy liquid.
This is the time when nausea and upset stomachs occur. Frequently it is worse in the morning hours but may be present any time of the day. You can reduce the morning sickness by eating six small meals a day. Try not to let your stomach get completely empty. Place a few crackers or bread next to the bed. Eat them in the morning before you get out of bed. Also try drinking very hot or very cold liquids. |
