Pregnancy is a time filled with changes and wonders. You have probably noticed many of them already. The very first change is a missed period. By now you have missed at least one. The good news it that you will not have a period for another nine months or so. (It is however a rather drastic way to avoid a period........smile.)
Other changes include nausea, vomiting, breast tenderness, frequent urination, and fatigue. Many of you will have an increased sense of smell. For example, you may be able to smell bad milk in the refrigorator while standing across the room. This increased sensitivity is also why many of you will stop wearing perfume during pregnancy.
Mood changes are very common. By now your family probably has made some type of comment about them. It may be a remark about why you are crying over a TV show or even a commercial. Perhaps you have felt you were on an emotional roller coaster that races to heights of joy then crashes to the depths of despair. All these feeling are natural and expected...........You are OK............
The good news is that most of the emotional roller coaster settles down by the end of the first trimester ( the first three months) However the fisrt time you feel the baby move or can't see your feet will bring a flood of emotions. Family members have a hard time keeping up with your emotional swings. They may not understand many of them............That's OK too..............
If the daily routine becomes too great or the mood swings too hard to handle for you and your family, you may need to talk to someone at the clinic. Depression is common during pregnancy. It is treatable without harming the baby. There are social workers who can help you cope with problems. So please if you are having a hard time, let us know. We probably can help or arrange help if needed.
