How to Get to Tawau?

I assume that your journey will start from Kota Kinabalu. First, you will have to take the East-West Highway from Kota Kinabalu to Sandakan. Next, take the East Coast Highway which links Tawau and Sandakan. To get to Tawau, you can either take an express bus which will take about 8 hours or by plane (MAS) which only takes about 45 minutes. You can see a lot of things and great sceneries including the Mount Kinabalu if you travel by bus. However, the long journey may be tiring. Malaysia Airlines provides up to 6 daily scheduled flights to Tawau from Kota Kinabalu and has recently added an evening flight back to Kota Kinabalu from the new airport.

There is another air service provided by Malaysia's second airline - Air Asia. Air Asia's direct flight from Kuala Lumpur International Airport to Tawau Airport cuts down the flight time to 2 hours and 45 minutes. Besides that, Air Asia flies to Tawau from as low as RM 179.99 one way. Please visit Air Asia's website for more information on flight reservations.
