In Ludington, Dow produces calcium chloride, magnesium hydroxide, bromine, and bromide derivatives.
Calcium chloride is used for ice melting and dust control, as a desiccant in humidity control and natural gas drying, as an additive for concrete to reduce curing time, as a wastewater treatment material for dewatering sludges, and in the oil and gas exploration industry as a well "completion" fluid.
Magnesium hydroxide technical grade products are used primarily for acid neutralization, industrial and municipal waste water treatment, epsom salts, and paper and chemical manufacturing. Magnesium hydroxide refractory grade is used in the manufacture of refractory materials (fire brick) for the steel industry.
Bromine is used in medicine, photography, chemicals and agricultural products, fire retardants and automotive fuel additives. We also make bromide derivatives which are used primarily in hydraulic fluids for oil wells.
The Ludington Site employs approximately 250 people.
