Malachi Isley III and his family are the first descendants of Malachi Isley known to have migrated to Illinois. Malachi III and his family moved from North Carolina to Illinois 1833-1834; between 1840 and 1842, he and some of his family then moved to
Missouri; he and two sons then moved to Hopkins, Texas in 1849; and, he moved back to Missouri in 1853. Some of Malachi III's children remained in Illinois and other Malachi I descendants migrated to Illinois.
Illinois was discovered in 1673, settled in 1720, and entered the Union as the 21st  State on December 3, 1818. The word Illinois comes from the French word meaning "Illini or Land of Illini.  It is an Algonquin word meaning "Men" or "Warriors." Illinois was named for the Illinois Indians.

The Isley families initially settled in BOND COUNTY. Bond was created January 4, 1817 from Madison County, before Illinois became a state. It was named after Shadrach Bond who became the first governor of Illinois. It is divided into nine townships: Burgess (formerly Pocahantas), Central (formerly Green Hill), Lagrange, Mills (formerly Beaver Creek), Mulberry Grove (formerly Zion), Old Ripley, Pleasant Mound (formerly Fairview and a portion of Mulberry Grove), Shoal Creek (formerly Cotton Grove), and Tamalco (formerly Okaw).
FAYETTE COUNTY
Est. February 14, 1821, and was named in honor of Marie Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette, the famous French General who fought for the colonies in the Revolutionary War.
MONTGOMERY COUNTY
Est in 1821 just three years after the state itself was officially organized. The area was then part of Bond County. Named for Richard Montgomery, a Revolutionary General, of Irish birth.
