Missouri; he and two sons then moved to Hopkins, Texas in 1849; and, he moved back to Missouri in 1853. Some of Malachi III's children remained in Illinois and other Malachi I descendants migrated to Illinois.
Est. February 14, 1821, and was named in honor of Marie Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette, the famous French General who fought for the colonies in the Revolutionary War.
Est in 1821 just three years after the state itself was officially organized. The area was then part of Bond County. Named for Richard Montgomery, a Revolutionary General, of Irish birth.
