The James Miguez Homepage
Who is James Miguez? Born in 1956, the son of Roland
Joseph Miguez and Eve Rodriguez Miguez, James is a Cathlolic scholar
and Thomist philosopher, a scientific observer who views world events and
theories under the higher light of Catholic theology and Christian
philosophy. Mr. Miguez received a Catholic education and graduated Magna
Cum Laude from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette with a degree major in
English and a minor in Philosophy. In 1993 he recieved -- after changing
over from a diocesean seminarian to a lay student -- a Master's degree in
systematic theology from Notre Dame Seminary and Graduate School of Theology at
New Orleans, La. Since that time, Mr. Miguez has spent almost 15 years in
advanced research into the field of Thomistic Studies. He has studied
closely the original Latin texts of St. Thomas Aquinas and has done a detailed
study of the various branches of thomistic tradition. Several years of
post-graduate work was also spent in studying the Catholic theologies of
Cardinal Henri de Lubac, Cardinal Ratzinger (now Pope Benedict XVI) and
cardinal-designate Hans Urs von Balthasar. Other work included
inter-disciplinary studies such as history, politics, economics and the history
of philosophy. Mr. Miguez can read several different European languages.
His parents both come from Louisiana. His father, Roland Joseph
Miguez, grew up in New Iberia, La., the same town his ancestors help found in
1779.
The ancestors
of James and his parents are Louisianians of many generations. Mostly
Spanish and Cajun French, his lineage also includes some Rhineland German,
Portuguese, and a touch of Irish.
Mr. Miguez owns and moderates the yahoo groups discussion list
"thomism" and is currently writing a book on the history of Thomism.
