Session 1: Memoir & Creative Nonfiction
Jim will lead the group through a series of games and activities designed to help young writers mine their memories and other true stories for great writing ideas.
Participants will:
*transform unforgettable experiences into unforgettable pieces of writing
*create compelling descriptions by appealing to all five of the reader's senses
*identify important life turning points and use writing to reflect on their meaning
June 8 - 25
Ages 11 - 13: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1:30-3:30 pm
Ages 14 - 19: Mondays and Wednesdays, 1:30-3:30 pm
Session 2: Fiction
The group will engage in activities to spark the young writer's imaginations, so they can create original works of fiction.
Participants will :
* develop complex three dimensional characters
* create compelling plots that are rooted in the character's conflicts
* write dramatic and dynamic dialogue that both develops the characters and pushes the plot forward
June 29 - July 16
Ages 11 - 13: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1:30-3:30 pm
Ages 14 - 19: Mondays and Wednesdays, 1:30-3:30 pm
In all the sessions will provide group activities, individual writing time, and sharing time. Creative freedom will always be valued and encouraged.
Snacks and writing supplies will be provided. |
