LIKES: Mini Mort!  Loppers. Itty bitty baby turtles and kitties. Painting some building and getting covered with the paint. The words "beep," "mouse," "bubble," "poop," "crux," "gelatinous," and "whilst" and "turtle."  The smell of new books. Reading. Libraries and bookstores. Candy and candy stores. Good music. The television shows "My So-Called Life," "Popular," "Grosse Pointe," "Whose Line is it Anyway?," SNL sketches with any combination of Will Ferrell, Cheri Oteri, and/or Ana Gasteyer, and shows like "Smallville" which are silly but overpopulated with pretty people. Plus many other television shows. Pickles. Europe travel. Business class on British Airways.  Movie trailers. Funny people. People whose names rhyme (Bobby Mahdavi, where are you?). Cheap gas prices.  Frosting. Whip cream. Chocolate. Gelato! Midori sours. Christmas music. The glow from multi-colored Christmas lights. My scrapbooks and photo albums. Spice-flavored car trees (I'm the only one, though). Cats. Greek mythology. Swear words. Imitating accents (ask me to spell "Alabama" sometime).  Frozen pizza cheese. Pepper jack cheese. Matt Leslie's pronounciations of "Jalapeno" and "fajita" etc. Matt and Big Dave having a Hearty Chuckle. Movie quotes.  Email.  Cucumber ranch salad dressing.  Croutons. French fries (especially fajita nacho fries!). Root beer floats. Sneezing. Sleep. Laughing. Cute boys. My stuffed animals. School/office supplies. Pens. My diplomas. Wearing fake tiaras. When francophones say "Shania Twain" or "Bob." Ha! Boggle. The rare occasion when I go shopping and find things that are simultaneously cute, cheap and well-fitting.

DISLIKES: Scraping paint. Spiders. Ticks. The show "Seinfeld." People who are too serious and/or who have no sense of humor. Shallow people and stuck-up people. Stupid people. Stupid people! Stupid music. Techno music. Purposelessly repetitve and/or annoying music.  Reality television, namely "Survivor," "Tempation Island," and all their dumb clones. Commercials! Sexism. Excessive materialism.  Cigarettes and cigarette smoke. Sports commentators (mostly just the ones for gymnastics). Jumpy, yappy and/or slobbery dogs. Those idiot pro-life people (Please.  Get a clue and some common sense. Duh). Extreme Republicans and other right-wing conservatives. Shitty birthdays (and I've had enough to know!). Mean people. People who can't drive/slow me down/try to show me up by speeding recklessly. Traffic on 520. People who can't spell, especially ones who exhibit "definately," "loose" instead of "lose," mixing "its" with "it's"/their, there, they're, and all those other things that the public education system should instill by age twelve.
ABOUT ME
From gymnastics and plays to orchestras and public speaking, performance has been an important theme throughout Julie's life. Her ultimate dream job would be an actor or a nationally-touring speaker.
A road trip with her dad and brother to Yellowstone at the tender age of eight probably was the catalyst for Julie's love of travel, though it wouldn't truly rear its head until her college years.  Julie feels very blessed (and Julie never uses those words!) to have explored so many places. That also dovetails with her occasional hobbies of taking photographs of sunrises, sunsets, and from moving vehicles.
A sense of leadership and desire to help has shaped Julie's sense of self. Beginning with peer education of all kinds over the years, she eventually dedicated nearly an entire year (1800 hours) to giving back to the global community through Americorps *NCCC.  Those exploits, adventures, trials and tribulations would fill many pages and may get boring, so suffice to say that she had an unbelievable, amazing, unforgettable and utterly rewarding term of service.  Never again will she accept complacency, and she has continued to serve her communities (though in significantly fewer frequency) since her return to normal life.
Julie loves to laugh (she recently discovered live improv), to read (averaging about a book per week), and to always hear music (just call her the master of the mix tape).  She knows at least a little bit about a lot of topics, and has a firm grasp of her own views and opinions.  That means she is an outspoken liberal--and proud of it.  Though varying completely on the scale between introvert and extravert, her social life leaves much to be desired. Julie usually prefers to stay home reading or watching lots of tv to going out on the town, though she does enjoy dancing.  She also enjoys small gatherings of friendly folks playing board games.
Julie has had  a unique family life thus far. An adoptee at birth, becoming both an older sister and child of divorce before her fourth birthday, she currently numbers approximately six parents and seven siblings, and way too many cousins to count, all scattered among various states and area codes.  Though many of the early years were filled with drama and strife, Julie persevered and now things have settled down considerably.  College afforded a much-needed physical distance that allowed for better emotional relationships which now flourish. Julie counts not only her many relatives as family, but includes friends as well.
Always moderately successful in academic life, she graduated in the top third of her class and went on to attend two excellent state universities. She studied everything she could, but ended up focusing on chemistry, French, and Women Studies (in that order),
Julie has no patience for ignorance, disrespect, xenophobia, lying, and most importantly, stupidity.  She heartily wishes that more people in the general populace were better versed in spelling and grammar. She swears like a sailor when she drives.  She loves tiny baby kittens and Mexican Caesar salads.  She tries to accept compliments graciously, but still imagines herself a frizzy-haired, awkward 13-year-old with bad teeth. She occasionally indulges in writing cheesy, trite, angst-ridden, non-rhyming poetry.  She often struggles with lack of self-esteem, but knows in her heart taht she is a hard-working, intelligent person with a lot to contribute and even more to learn.  Plus she has a nice ass and awesome biceps.  Julie's myriad future goals include learning Italian, visiting Africa, owning a digital camera, and being a teacher.  Some of her favorite authors include JK Rowling, John Irving, Amy Tan, Barbara Kingsolver, and Stephen King. She watches Alias and admits a weakness for MTV's Road Rules.
