Spin Dye

I love to knit. Mom taught me when I was a child. Didn't catch on until after my first daughter turned 1 in 1996.  Here's a link to a sweater I knit called Baby Olivia.

I learned to knit socks at my first Stitches West in 1997.  Ever since I've been hooked and endeavor to try (look here) many different patterns.

Here is a sampling of knit related links.  The vendors listed here are ones I'm most familiar with.  For all the links on this page the key is: R-retail, P-personal, I-info, L-List.

Hand Dyed Direct

On eBay you can buy various hand dyed yarns in small or large lots, or you can see the actual yarns at conventions staggered throughout the year.  Many of the vendors that offer these beautifully handpainted fibers have opened up their own webshops.  Their creations are available for sale to the public.

I learned to spin in1997, started on a drop spindle, worked my way up to a wheel and now enjoy both!  I get better results on the wheel but can take my spindle wherever I go!  Click here to see what I'm currently spinning up!  In the summer of 1998 I taught myself to weave and joined a CNCH affliated guild.

Here are some spinning and weaving related links, most retailers listed here have knitting supplies as well...

What's next?  Why, dyeing, of course!  I've only dabbled at this (and I like it -- ALOT!).  Took a class on silk dyeing in the summer of 1998 and took a class on cotton dyeing in the summer of 1999.  Dyeing cotton requires an alkaline soak (or solution in the dye) while silk and other protein fibers (wool, alpaca, mohair, angora,...) require an acid dye.  Actually you can dye silk with either method.  I use Procion fiber reactive dyes for cottons and have used Lanaset/Sabraset dyes for protein fibers.  Here's some useful links for reference:
