As Susan stepped into Bosco's apartment, she couldn't help but smile. She was so surprised. His apartment was spotless. Very nicely decorated. The smell of something cooking welcomed her hungry stomach. And Bosco...wow, he was HOT! He was dressed in a nice pair of Dockers, and a nice button down dress shirt, which he hadn't yet buttoned. "Nice abs..." Susan noticed. His newly showered hair framed his face, and Susan found herself wanting to drool on him. "Wow, Susan, you look amazing." Bosco said as he looked her. She was dressed in a pair of semi-casual pinstripe black dress pants. Her shirt was a low-cut tan shirt with a semi-casual jacket that matched the pants. Her hair was pulled up into a funky updo and her make-up was more dramatic and emphasized her facial features more. "Thanks so much for coming over, Susan. I can't thank you enough for giving me another chance." Bosco said as he led her into his apartment. As she sat down in the living room, Bosco Disappeared into the kitchen. Susan was caught off guard by what Bosco brought back. A humungous boquet of flowers, so big that Bosco was practically hidden behind them greeted Susan. Before she could say anything, he spoke. "I know that buying you things won't get you back, but let me explain. What I said, I didn't mean. See, if I'm not the "macho" guy at work, then I'm nothing. It's all attitude. I never mean what I say. You know, I just want to be one of the guys. So, once you have a certain "persona", you've gotta stick with it. But after this, I've learned that it's not worth it, trying to be someone your not." He looked into her eyes, "because you can really hurt the people you love. Susan, please let me make it up to you,...please?" As he sat down, she grabbed his hand and held onto it. "Bosco, I liked you because of who YOU are, not how other people see you. If you promise to be how you are, I will promise to give you another chance." The look of relief on his face was obvious. "But just one question. Why'd you get me those flowers? Did you actually think you were going to win me over with just a big boquet of spring flowers?" Susan said laughing. "Well," Bosco began, "I looked at it, and thought it was beautiful, just like you." Susan then thought to herself "And this is the part where I melt on the floor..." But, then she smelled something. "Bosco, why does it smell like burnt garlic in here?" "Oh shit!!!!" Bosco yelled as he got up and ran into the kitchen, with Susan following close behind. Bosco grabbed an oven mitt and opened the oven door to be greeted by a cloud of smoke. As he brought the "used-to-be" garlic bread out of the oven and set it on the counter, the smoke detector when off. Then, the pot with the spaghetti started to boil over. As Bosco treid his hardest not to swear, he grabbed the pot, later realizing that he had taken the oven mitt off. "SON OF A BITCH!" Bosco yelled as the hot water scalded his hand. So, there he was standing in the middle of his kitchen, nursing a burned hand, with ruined garlic bread, over-flowing spaghetti, and an annoying smoke detector blarring in his ears. He looked up at Susan, who was trying not to laugh. Pretty soon they were both laughing. "Yet another example that men can't cook!" Susan said. "I can't believe I ruined dinner! Just when everything was going great, I go and ruin dinner. What a day..." Then Susan asked "What would you have done if I HADN'T given you another chance? What would you have done with all this food?" "Well, I looked at it this way." Bosco said. "I can have the pleasure of your company for dinner, or if you would have said no, I would have still eaten dinner. I just wouldn't have to use my manners, and I wouldn't have to share." Susan bust out laughing. "Either way, it was a win/win situation!" Bosco said. Then Susan remembered how he had burned his hand. "Hey, is your hand okay? It looks like you burned it pretty bad. Here, let me look at it." "Naw, I'm fine. It's no big deal. " "No, Bosco, let me check it out. I'm not going to hurt you." "No, Susan, really I'm find. Just leave it alone." "Dammit Bosco!" Susan said laughing. "I'm a doctor, so it's not like I don't know what I'm doing." Susan grabbed his hand before he could argue. She knew that the burn was okay. He was fine. But she felt the warmth of his skin and she didn't want to let go. After a minute, she looked up and said "Your fine. See, no big deal..." Bosco just looked at her and smiled. And then slowly, he kissed her. After he pulled away, she just looked at him, none of them saying a word. Then, Bosco's stomach growled. Susan laughed as Bosco turned a shade of red. "Don't worry, Bos, I agree. What do you think about getting some dinner?" Susan asked as she went to go grab her purse. "Did you really think I'd say no?" Bosco said as he grabbed his wallet and keys. Bosco led Susan to his car, and when they got there, Susan squealed with delight. "I love older cars, like these! They are so much fun! And this one's in perfect condition! Oh, I'm SO excited!" Bosco laughed as she grinned when they got in the car. "So, where would you suggest going for dinner?" Susan asked, since she hadn't really been to New York. "Oh, I think I have a place in mind." Bosco said. Along the drive, Bosco pointed out certain things of interest to Susan. They finally pulled up in front of their destination a few minutes later. "O'Reilly's bar and grille" Susan said, reading the sign. "Yea, it's a pretty neat place. Unless you'd rather go somewhere "fancier"." Bosco said. "No, this is great!" Susan said as she got out of the car. Once inside, Susan looked around. The place was swarming with people. It was a nicely established place. It had a bar toward the back, pool tables, a small stage for the band, and a bunch of tables to seat people. Bosco put his hand on her waist and led her over to a table. Bosco just couldn't believe how beautiful she was. He honestly loved her. Not like Nicole, and all those other girls. He was actually falling for Susan. Soon, a waiter came up, gave them menus, told them the specials, and then left. As Bosco was studying the menu, Susan looked up at him. Just looking at him reminded her of the reason why she had forgiven him. And to be honest, when she had first come here, she thought he acted like an asshole. But now, she was really pleased to see this other side of him. I guess there really is more to a person than you think, she thought..... _______________________________________________________________ In front of O'Reilly's Bar and Grille, NYC, 11 P.M. "I am so full, I think I'm going to barf." Bosco said, holding his stomach and groaning. "Well, you shouldn't have eaten that much!" Susan said as she laughed at him. "Bos?.... Thank you for tonight." Susan said on a more serious note. "No, thank you Susan. If it weren't for you forgiving me, this would have never happened. Thank you so much..." It had indeed been a good night for both of them. After eating a fabulous dinner, the two had danced to the band's slow songs, and then Bosco had taught Susan how to play pool. After that, they sat and talked, learning about each other's past, families, dreams, hopes, pretty much everything. And before they knew it, it was 11 o'clock. "So, where to now?" Bos asked as he and Susan got into his car. "Well, my rental car is still back at your apartment, and I'm gonna need that for tomorrow. And as much as I hate to do this, I'm afraid I had better be heading back. Tomorrow is full of lectures at the conference and I still need to finish a few reports and finish writing my summary of today's lectures. I'm sorry..." "No! Hey! Don't say your sorry. Work is work. I totally understand. And now that you mention it, I have to work early tomorrow too, so it's probably in my best interest to go home and sleep before my long day tomorrow." "Yea, my boss would kill me if he knew that I was going out on dates instead of working on my summaries and reports." Susan laughed, thinking of poor Dr. Romano back at County with all those surgical interns surrounding him. "Yea, sounds a lot like my boss. Except he doesn't care what we do,just as long as we get our work done. And even if he DID care, I wouldn't give anything to miss a date with you..." Bosco said as he pulled the car into his parking space. After both of them got out of the car, they just stood there for a minute. And then Susan came up and kissed him. Afterwards, they just looked at each other. Then Susan grabbed her purse and started toward her car. "Thanks for such an awesome evening, Bos..." She began to say as she opened the car door. "But wait, when will I see you again, Susan???" Bosco pleaded. "How about tomorrow? Here, at your apartment, same time?" Susan asked. "Great." Bosco smiled at her. "Okay, then tomorrow, we will meet again." Susan said. "Goodnight, Bosco." she said as she closed the door, started her car and drove off into the evening. Bosco felt at peace as he watched her drive off. He couldn't wait until tomorrow, now. Every time he was near her, he felt like nothing could get to him. Like all his troubles suddenly vanished. "Goodnight Susan, I love you..." he whispered as he turned and went into his apartment... |
