Contract & Policy
Handbook Agreement
last  revision July 2006
Welcome to Kim's Kids Family Child Care. The following will provide information on what to expect from me, what I can expect from you and your child, and how we can work together to make this a comfortable, fun, safe, learning environment for your child.
As a professional child care provider, my goal is to provide your child with the best care possible. To meet this goal, and at the same time run my business and home efficiently, I have set up the following policies. Please read this handbook thoroughly, as it covers very important policies and procedures that pertain to the care of your child.
COMMUNICATION
Please let me know what is going on in your child's life periodically- such as any stresses going on at home. It is very helpful to know from a behavior standpoint if your child is in a transition or under any amount of stress- (examples: new siblings, financial hardships, new step parent, divorce or separation). If something wonderful happens let me know that too, so that I can help them share it. I would like to provide the best possible care and this will help me to understand their moods and allow planning for appropriate activities and support.
Communication is very important. Anytime you have a question, concern or problem, please contact me. I look forward to caring for your child, and the more I am aware of, the better I can provide for your child's needs. You may reach me daily at 292-0978. If there is no answer we are probably outside or busy doing an activity, leave a message and I will get back to you. I will have a cell phone with me at all times when we are away from the house.  The number is 517-7212.
Should it become apparent that my child care is not providing what you or your child require, either client family or Kim's Kids Family Child Care may initiate a "termination of services" letter. Two weeks notice and the payment of the last two weeks fees must accompany the termination letter whether or not the child attends. Please note that even in the best of situations, relationships can breakdown or our needs and expectations change. I wish to serve all my child care client families in the children's best interest.
ENROLLMENT POLICY
All necessary forms MUST be completed and returned to me before I will assume the responsibility of caring for your child. NO EXCEPTIONS! Do not bring your children for me to care for them unless I have all the papers filled out and in my hand. For returning client families, ALL PAPERWORK must be completed yearly.
______Signed Policy Handbook Contract & Fee and Payment Agreement
______Authorization for Emergency Medical Release
______Child Information Sheet
______ Daycare Travel Information Card
______Texas Dept. of Health Immunization Record (copy)
The first two weeks of your child's enrollment will be a trial period. If a problem should arise during those two weeks that we cannot resolve, either you or I may immediately terminate my services without further commitment. Fees will only be due for the days care was provided and refunds if needed will be prompt.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Drop in visits are welcome at anytime your child is in care.
Parents will supply diapers, wipes, formula and bottles as necessary.
All children will have an afternoon nap or quiet time each day. Babies will nap within their own schedule. We observe a nap or quiet time after lunch. I supply beds or rest mats and bedding for children who nap. If your child does not nap, (s)he may spend this time reading, or playing quietly so as not to disturb the children who do sleep.
I will incorporate into the children's day- work on basic manners and responsibility for messes created by the children with cleanup times, taking dishes to the sink, please and thank you, etc.
Please inform me of your child's favorite games, things to do, etc. Also inform me if your child has any allergies, special routines for nap time, fears, (i.e.: scared of dark, shut doors, etc.). or anything else about your child's likes and dislikes (such as foods) that you feel would be helpful to me. I'd like to do whatever is possible to make your child's time here more comfortable and fun. The more I know about your child, the better I can help him or her adapt to their new daycare.
HOURS AND ATTENDANCE ISSUES
My normal working hours are from 7:00am to 5:30pm Monday through Friday.
Parents contract for certain days and times, ie. 7:00am-5:00pm or
7:30am-5:30pm. Tuition is for 10 hours daily anything beyond will be billed at an overtime hourly rate and only with approval of provider.   If you will be arriving before or after your contracted time please call ahead as we do occasionally leave the house for outings and events.
If the parent has NOT notified Kim's Kids Child Care that he/she will be late, and I can no longer provide care, I will call one of the emergency contacts to pick up the child.
I take 5 personal/sick days (paid) and 2 weeks (unpaid) off each year for vacation,  (usually 1 week in the winter or spring and 1 week in the summer ) and will give you a minimum of 3 weeks notice for vacation time.  It will be PARENTS responsibility to arrange for a substitute.
Please let me know at least 24 hours in advance for any schedule changes or by 8 a.m. if your child won't be coming. More than 2 unexplained absences is grounds for immediate end to permanent care.
I will not be available for New Year's Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Forth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving & day after, Christmas Eve and Christmas.  If one of these holidays falls on a weekend I will take the Friday before or the Monday after off.
Occasionally I may have to have a substitute care giver so that I may attend appointments or take a medical or professional growth day.  In this event you will be notified and the care will be provided by my husband who is approved by the state and has had a criminal check done.
ILLNESS
Please do not bring your child if he/she is sick. Health Department regulations prohibit the admittance of any child into a family daycare home or center who exhibits any of the following symptoms:
Rash
Fever (100 F. higher)- Child needs to be fever free for 24 hours
Runny nose with colored discharge
Diarrhea
Discharge from eyes or ears
Vomiting
Communicable diseases (chicken pox, roseola, conjunctivitis, mumps, measles, influenza)
Head lice, scabies
If your child develops any of these symptoms while in my care, you will be called and required to pick him/her up immediately.  Beginning one hour from the time of my first call, a sick child care fee of $5 per 15 minutes is charged until child is picked up. Before returning to child care, your child must be free of ALL symptoms for 24 hours, or be accompanied by a doctor's note.
If your child still has these symptoms and is on antibiotics I will take them after 24 hours of antibiotics. If I need to administer any medicine whether by prescription or by your advice I will need you to fill out and sign a medical treatment form.
In the event of illness on my part I will notify you as soon as possible. I will not care for your children while I have a contagious illness other than a simple cold. If I am unavailable due to illness, I will give you as much notice as possible.  PARENT will be responsible for finding alternate care.
A signed form is required any time I am asked to give medication to a child in care. Please sign this form for me even if you only wish to have me give Tylenol. Medication brought here to be dispensed must be in its original container. Include the name of the medication, the exact dosages, and the times that it is to be taken. Please do not leave medicine in diaper bags-- hand deliver it to me.
Scratches and scrapes are inevitable when children play. These injuries will be treated with love, antiseptic and a band aid. With anything more serious, I will inform you at once.
EMERGENCIES
If your child requires immediate medical attention, you will be contacted, and if I am unable to reach you or emergency back up person, then your child will be transported by ambulance to the most appropriate medical facility. Parents will be responsible for all costs involved in emergency medical treatment, including emergency transportation if required.
CURRICULUM
I have a planned curriculum for each week/month that is constructed in a way that  is entirely flexible. We may do all the activities, more or little of them depending on interest of the children. If weather is beautiful we may just take off and enjoy it rather than do crafts and activities.
I design the curriculum using child care resource books and fellow providers so that I may include all ages in the activities. Young children will be included as soon as able. Interest in the activity will be their starting point and guide. Children may refuse to participate and I will not force any child to do the projects.
The most important lesson a child can learn is how to enjoy life. Knowledge, while important, does not rank as high as teaching a child how to learn and encouraging the growth of their imagination. Play is the most important tool through which young children learn. Through play children can be taught self-esteem, problem-solving, and independence. Parents/guardians are encouraged to be ask questions, make constructive comments, and give suggestions.
This is a  sample schedule of how our day goes. Again, I leave a lot of room for spontaneity, this schedule is not set in stone.

GENERAL POLICIES/RULES
Kim's Kids Child Care will allow only those persons specified to remove the child from care without prior written permission.
DIVORCE RECORDS/CUSTODY AGREEMENT
Divorced parents are required to provide a copy of custody papers to be kept in the child's file at the time of enrollment or in a timely manner. Without custody papers, I have no legal way of preventing the child's natural parents from removing them from the childcare home. If I do have copies of papers, I can then call the police if the non-custodial natural parent does try to remove child from care.
TOYS
Kim's Kids will provide a vast array of toys to play with here. Please do not bring any toys from home as this causes jealousy and fighting among the children. A special pillow, blanket or stuffed animal may be brought for nap times if they are used to it.
NO RUNNING, HITTING, BITING, KICKING, PINCHING, SPITTING, PUSHING, OR FIGHTING. Obscene language is not to be used by anyone. Repeated offenses can be grounds for immediate termination of contract.
Respectful treatment of all property, toys, and furniture is expected (i.e. we don't sit on the arms of chairs or couches, and there is no standing on or jumping on/off the furniture)
Do not allow your child to run out to your car while you are still inside! Please be in control of your child during pick up times. This is a time of testing when two different authority figures are present, (parent and provider) and this situation will be tested to see if the rules still apply. I will remind your child of inappropriate behaviors being displayed, and take action to correct them if needed.
Accidental or willful destruction of property in my home will be charged to the parent at the cost to replace the item.
POTTY TRAINING
I will be more than happy to help with potty training, providing that it is not done before the child is ready.  Some signs of readiness are: able to verbalize the need to go potty, ability to pull down own pants, staying dry for longer periods of time.  Parents are asked to initiate the training at home, during the parents vacation or weekend before starting it at daycare.  Once training is initiated, parents are to supply 5-ply training pants and plastic pants.  Please do not send the child in underwear until you are pretty sure they will not be having accidents routinely.  I also ask that during toilet learning, the child be dressed in "user-friendly" clothing as much as possible. The best items are shorts and pants with elastic waists, or dresses for girls. Try to avoid really tight clothing, overalls, pants with snaps and zippers, as often as you can. Your child will want to pull up and down his/her own pants, plus clothing with too many "gadgets" makes it harder to get the child to the potty on time.
A time should be set aside for us to talk on how you are hoping to get this accomplished.  I have potty trained my own two children plus many more.  I have some great ideas if you need some help, but just remember what works for one doesn't always work for the other.
During toilet learning parents will need to supply:
- three complete changes of clothing (socks included)
- 5-ply training pants (6 pair per day)
- diapers for nap time
DISCIPLINE
Acceptable behavior is encouraged by giving positive verbal rewards. This reinforces a child's good feeling about his/her behavior and serves as an example to the children to act in such a way as to receive this praise. Asking a child to stop and think about their behavior enables the child to work at self control. Depending on the situation, one warning is usually given and the child reminded of acceptable behavior. The next step would be a timeout. This timeout is not a punishment, but rather a time when the child may calm down, remember what behavior is acceptable, and decide when they are ready to rejoin the group with appropriate behavior. If timeouts are not effective , some sort of consequence will be imposed. This may range from a favorite toy being taken away for a period of time, to being excluded from a favorite activity. Naturally , parents will be advised. Corporal punishment is not considered to be an accepted method of dealing with young child's behavior. Children will not be hit, slapped, or spanked in any manner while attending Kim?s Kids Child Care. IF YOU ARE USING  A CERTAIN METHOD AT HOME, PLEASE INFORM ME SO THAT WE CAN BE CONSISTENT
CLOTHING
Please brings an extra outfit daily for your child or have one that can be left here for emergencies. REGARDLESS OF AGE OF CHILD (PLEASE!!!!) A child's work is messy business and even older children can get overly dirty or wet during play. If your child is potty training please include plenty of changes. For those children in diapers-YOU MUST SUPPLY DIAPERS & WIPES - please bring enough to last two days or you may bring a package to be labeled for your child and left here.
Please do not  send a child without shoes (unless not walking yet). Even on hot days as shoes are needed for some types of play. Please also dress your child appropriately for the weather. (Mittens, coats, hats in cold weather and shorts and t shirts in warm weather) Bear in mind that if it is not raining we will spend sometime outside EVERYDAY. I will assume that the clothing your child wears here is play clothing and getting dirty is part of the fun for young children. Most of our paints here are washable but even with smocks stains could occur.
Meals and Snacks  - View my 12 week  rotating Menus

Kim's Kids Family Child Care furnishes lunch and an afternoon snack to all non-infant children, Please do not bring snacks unless you bring enough to share with everyone. These will be dispensed by the provider at the appropriate time. Food served during the day will include servings from each of the four food groups as defined by the U.S.D.A.  You may bring special treats for special occasions and birthdays as long as you let me know in advance.  NO GUM ALLOWED.  I send home
monthly menus and also post one in the daycare room.
Please let me know what your child is eating at which stages. I will also try and keep the meal flexible so that individual tastes can be fulfilled. A child refusing to eat several choices will have to wait until the next meal is offered . (Babies excluded)
Our meals are served at:
Lunch 11:30-12:00 p.m.
Snack 3:00-3:30 p.m.
If you arrive after a meal has been served please be sure your child has eaten.
OUT OF HOUSE ACTIVITIES
My regular program includes neighborhood walks, Library Story Time, field trips, and other out of house activities that involve transportation of the children in a vehicle owned by myself. By signing the contract you have given your permission for this occurrence. I will occasionally leave the house with the children. We will be going on field trips throughout the year. Some will be planned far in advance; some will be spur of the moment. For special day field trips you will be asked permission ahead of time. I may ask you to occasionally leave your child's car seat for this occurrence. Specific information about the location, cost of the trip, transportation, and exact dates will be provided to you as the field trip is planned.
