This race is the balance between might and magic. They have both powers, yet when you compare them with templars, they are weaker fighters. Then if you compare them with harakims, they are weaker spellers. Although they are not the best of might nor magic, they still are the best basic solo fighting material.

It’s hard to be a merc, the reason is it’s hard to balance the might and magic ratio. Braveness is a essential, same as strength and agility, meanwhile, not forgetting intuition and willpower… It all depends which root you pick to go. More magic or more might? I would strongly suggest first concentrating in strength, agility, and protection in the beginning. Then, after you got curse and bless, work on them. A merc’s specialty is curse, and stun. If you wish to go for more might, max sword first, then get emerald armor in late captain. If going for sorcerer, go for bless, curse, stun protection and enhance. Max your bless and curse first, then emerald armor, and tit sword.
=First step as a baby Merc=
After you have got yourself some armor and spelled, remember to stand at the doorway of the thieves’ house. Do not ever go running into a strange building because you do not know what’s inside. In addition, best to keep your light on always just incase that rooms you enter have no light and when you are attacked, you do not know what is attacking you and you are still getting damages. There are not many tips for a merc... go look at the templars. It is about the same thing. Also, do not forget to curse and stun your targets!
=Spell theory=
Bless... Always double spell yourself. Keep your curse and bless up... keep it maybe 5 higher then the other spells. Get your protection and stun at the same level as enhance. They would be your only offensive spells. Stun and curse are really merc's specialties (as I said before). If even you are planning to go warrior (60str and agi) you should get max for your spells before going warrior. Especially if you are going sorcerer (60 will and int) you really have to max your stun, curse and all fighting skills. They are a huge part in your role play.
