Working Weight Pull Dog         WPD Working Pack Dog
WTD Working Team Dog          WLD Working Lead Dog
**An "X" after the above titles means "excellent"
Working weight pull dog:
There shall be four divisions in the contest, dogs weighing less than 80lbs., dogs weighing 80-100lbs., dogs weighing 101-120lbs., dogs weighing 121lbs. and over.  A dog must qualify in 4 separate events.  Dogs must be weighed before the event.
*On natural surfacces, such as snow or dirt, the weight pulled must equal of exceed 8 times the dog's weight.  For example:  A 70lb dog would need to pull 560 lbs. to get a "leg" toward his title.
*On artificial surfaces, such as concrete, the weight pulled must equal or exceed 12 times the dog's weight.  For example:  A 70 lb. dog would need to pull 840lbs. to get a "leg."

Ahh...another 10 miles behind us.  We took the overnight option which finished Kita's requirements.  I think mom and I EACH carried 30% of OUR body weight on our backs for this trip.  There's something to be said for packing light!  This was Beamer's second trip.
Backpacking
The dog must carry 30% of it's body weight (NOT 1/3!) at the beginning of each day.  A reasonable pace must be kept up, water breaks should be every 2 miles or sooner if it's warm out.   The only way the amount carried may be reduced is through normal food and water consumption.
Option 1: The dog must hike 40 miles, at least 10miles per day.  On a relatively flat trail, that's about 5 hours.
Option 2: The dog must hike 30 miles, 1 trip must be an overnight camping trip.  You must still do at least 10 miles per day on the non-overnighters.  Only one overnighter counts.  On the second day of the overnighter, the dog must start out with 30% its body weight in the pack again.
Sledding
Working Team Dog (WTD) The rules are similar to the backpacking as far as going at least 40 miles spread out over 4 10 mile trips.  They need not run on an all-Malamute team to qualify, nor do they need to run on the same team each leg to qualify, nor do they need to run in the same position.  There are several options, please read the complete rules on the AMCA website
Working Lead Dog (WLD) The rules are the same as those for WTD except the dog must run single lead the entire time on a 3 dog team or bigger.
We now make sledding and weight pull harnesses, visit our harness page for more information!
