Parliament of Whores

by P.J. O'Rourke

Parliament of Whores is proof that PJ O'Rourke has a love/hate relationship with the United States Government. Unfortunately, I can't tell whether he either loves to hate it, or hates to love it. He wrestles with the elective process, Congress, the President, the people and the Constitution. He rails against the boring way that politics are taught at every level in America. He takes on the Democrats and the Republicans with an (attempted) evenhandedness that shocks those of us who know darned good and well that he is probably as close to being a pure libertarian as one can get without losing a critical mass of brain cells. The funny thing is, I don't know what else to say about this book. It is wildly satirical and above all - different. I have never known politics to be talked about in this manner - both informative and funny. PJ O'Rourke is a captivating author. Even if you can't agree with him, you will find yourself laughing and nodding at some of his observations.
