"In wilderness lies the hope of the world - the great, fresh, unblighted, unredeemed wilderness. The galling harness of civilization drops off, and the wounds heal ere we are aware." John Muir
Yosemite National Park is one of the most beautiful places on earth. There really is no other way to describe it, and even those words are inadequate. It was one of the nation's first national parks (the first was Yellowstone National Park). It was set aside as a National Park by Congress October 1, 1890. The Yosemite we know today was created by a bill signed by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1905. Yosemite became a protected area due in large part to the efforts of Ansel Adams, John Muir, and other naturalists, who wanted to protect the breathtaking natural beauties of this unique place from the dangers of human expansion and exploitation. Due to their efforts, thousands of visitors have enjoyed the unique beauty that Yosemite National Park offers.
