Day 928 - Day 939
Day 928  (6 days later)
We receive our orders, go to battle, and come out victorious.
Battle Records:  Lillay kills one of the Lead Knights with a hit for 22 points.

Day 930
(2 days later)
We are freed from our services and we are able to proceed with our original mission.

Day 934
(4 days later)
Finally, we have arrived in Remios!  We procure rooms at the Wet Maiden for the next week.  Nivak and Ilmarian being searching for our man, Nickolaus, right away in the seediest of seedy bars they can find.

Day 935
(the next day)
Growlyn inquires with the town records clerk.  Caradryan and Nadon attempt to bribe a jailer.  No information as of yet.

Day 936
(the next day)
Still no sign of Nickolaus in Remios.  Either we’re looking in the wrong places or he’s no longer here.  That night::  A noise rouses me from my sleep and I can just barely make out a human form opening the window opposite my bed.  I make a instant grab for my sword and station myself next to the window.  I can see Ilmarian take hold of his sword, but he makes no move to leave his bed yet.  It’s strange that we’ve incurred a price on our heads within two days.  I do believe that’s the quickest yet!  Ilmarian and I quickly subdue our attackers – killing all, but one.  Caradryan immediately seeks restitution from the innkeeper.  Ilmarian and I take our prisoner into Nivak’s room where we see that he has captured one as well.  Nivak interrogates them, but they are unable (or unwilling?) to tell more than that a man named Jose offered 100 Gold to them for an “easy kill”.  Easy, hah!  Nivak isn’t impressed with the information received, so he attempts to set an example by loping the head off of his captive.  The other one begs for mercy and insists still that he has no other information to offer.  We can hear the town watch coming up the stairs.  Nivak stuffs the decapitated head into a bag and he and Ilmarian head out the back door to deliver a message to Jose.  I untie the deceased prisoner to make his death appear just a little less suspicious.  We are new in town and I’m not sure how the watch would react to the deliberate killing of an unarmed man…even though he did try to kill us first.  These things can get terribly complicated sometimes.  The watch hauls our last captive away along with the bodies of his comrades.  They question us as to the circumstances of the attack and we play dumb.  Well, it’s not like we have very much information to share anyway.  Caradryan was unable to obtain a monetary apology for the lack of security here, but he was able to get us free ale for the remainder of our stay.  For some in this party, that’s better than gold!  I found out later, in the relative calm, that one of Nivak’s men, Tom, died in the assault – his skull was crushed in while he slept.
Notable Quotes:  Garth to the group:  “From the Nivak scream, everyone is now aroused…in the Wet Maiden!”  Dave in regards to poor Tom:  “He parries with his tongue.”

Day 937 (the next day)
Nivak and Ilmarian have returned from their confrontation with Jose.  They delivered his assassin’s head, but weren’t able to get much more information.  He claims another adventuring party (one with a female leader) hired him out to kill us for 500 Gold.  He will not give any other information about our newly discovered enemies, but claims he will try to send word if another hit is ordered.

Day 938 (the next day)
Growlyn bribes the town records clerk into speedier service, but all that he comes up with is that Nickolaus does not own any property in Remios.  Caradryan and Nivak purchase parchment, quill, and ink to post a message on the town boards.  Ilmarian receives a messenger from the Thieves Guild – they may have a lead on Nickolaus, but it will cost more money to investigate.  Nivak also receives a messenger while he is out – this one says he thinks he has found Nickolaus, but wants to give the details to Nivak directly.  That night:  A man named Rufino knocks on Caradryan and Nadon’s door around 3am.  They proceed to wake all of us and Rufino insists upon a meeting in the tavern downstairs.  After offering him an ale, our mystery man proceeds to tell us that he was sent to kill us, but has decided against it for the moment thinking that perhaps we might be useful to his plot.  We make a deal with the devil himself to lure Nickolaus out of hiding and hand him over to the assassins we were hired to protect him from.  It seems the only logical idea at 3am on our third day in town.  We’ve had no leads as to Nickolaus’ whereabouts so far and Rufino states that he knows where to find only that he cannot get to him and believes we will be able to.  The inquiries we’ve made have lead assassins to our doorstep (or windowsill) two out of our three nights here.  And, so bringing back Nickolaus’ head seems suddenly acceptable.

Day 939 (the next day)
Nivak’s contact returns with information that Nickolaus is at Brigg’s Armory.  Ilmarian disguises himself in a hooded cloak in order to go there and check out the situation.  He is (Day 939 cont.) able to speak to Nickolaus’ bodyguards and makes arrangements to bring the rest of the party back so that we can devise a strategy and set out.
