4 Nephites and Lamanites delight in blood and loose 1,000’s; Nephites flee; Lamanites sacrifice prisoners to idols; Mormon rescues records from hill.

5 Mormon relents & resumes command w/o hope; regrets writing of carnage but it’s to convince his seed of Christ, who’ll receive records from Gentiles.

6 King lets Nephites gather at Cumorah for battle; records hid in hill; some given to son Moroni; Lamanite numbers bring terror; Mormon wounded, grieves over lost souls; a few flee or defect; only 24 of 230,000 survive.

7 Mormon writes to descendants: ye are of Israel; repent & believe in Christ.

8 Alone, Moroni ends record; his father is killed & fleeing Nephites were hunted; Lamanites fight each other; the 3 disciples did minister to him; who brings forth this important record is blessed; he is shown our day.

9 Unbelievers: would be miserable in heaven w/ guilt, ye misunderstand scripture; tells plan of salvation; disbelief ends miracles; ask believing; disciples preach to world; miracles follow believers; serve God wisely, worthily; this shorter, reformed Egyptian writing is inferior to Hebrew.

Ether:

1 Taken from 24 gold plates (see Omni and Mosiah 8 & 28): lineage of Ether back to Jared of Babel, whose brother prayed so their language wouldn’t be confounded & was directed how to travel to a choice land.

2 Jared, family, friends and supplies reach a northern valley; in a cloud God talks to brother of Jared, guides them to the coast for a 4-yr stay, scolds them for forgetting prayer and helps brother build barges.

3 Brother moltens 16 small clear stones for 8 barges, prays God to light them, sees His finger and fears; due to faith Christ appears, ministers, gives translator stones, shows all things, tells him to write all & seal it.

4 Moroni told to bury records and interpreters until Gentiles repent; what persuades men to do good, is of God; he who believes is given more.

5 Touch not sealed records; God will let 3 witnesses see plates & testify.

6 344 days at sea; they land, worship, till, multiply & desire a king; bro. of Jared & sons object but Jared’s son Orihah accepts; they prosper.

7 Orihah’s son Kib reigns; his son Corihor’s rebel colony captures him; other son Shule rescues him; Shule reigns, is captured by Corihor’s son Noah who is slain in rescue; Shule slays Noah’s son Cohor when attacked; prophets warn of destruction if wicked; repentance & peace.

8 Shule’s son Omer reigns; his son Jared gains ½ the people; Omer is captured; two other sons reunite father’s kingdom; Jared’s daughter entices Akish to kill Omer; greed and secret oaths will destroy nations.

9 Akish & friends oust Omer who is warned in dream; he & rest of family flee; Akish marries daughter, slays Jared, reigns & imprisons a son to death; other sons bring wars; 30 left flee to Omer who regains power; son Emer reigns (62 yrs prosperity) sees God; son Coriantum reigns; son Com reigns 49 yrs & is slain by son Heth who reigns; persecuted prophets predict a famine, which comes; poisonous snakes chase flocks south & block peoples escape; death & repentance; rain comes.

10 Descendant Shez rebuilds; son Riplakish reigns 42 yrs, levies taxes and evaders are enslaved; he is slain in revolt and his family flee; descendant Morianton retakes lands and rules justly; wicked son Kim reigns and is captured by brother; Kim’s good son Levi regains power & reigns 42 yrs; prosperity & good kings follow: son Corom, son Kish and son Lib who kills snakes, builds and trades; son Hearthom reigns 24 yrs & is captured; succeeding sons reign in captivity: Heth, Aaron, Amnigaddah and Coriantum; Com wins over ½ the people, reigns 42 yrs & overthrows Amgid; robbers return & he fails to defeat them.

12 Prophet Ether preaches; Coriantumr king; Moroni tells us hope & faith bring the gift of knowledge & miracles; God told him weaknesses bring humility & strength & Christ’s love is charity; he prays for Gentiles, was promised salvation, bids farewell and testifies he saw Jesus; seek Him.

13 Ether sees Old and New Jerusalem, prophesies, is hunted and hides in a cave; Shared captures king; sons regain realm & king slays Shared.

14 1000’s fall against Shared’s brother Gilead, who takes throne & is slain by his priest; Lib is ousted and slain by king; Lib’s fierce, feared brother Shiz vows king’s life; stink of dead all over; king faints, thought dead.

15 2 million dead; king recalls prophecies, mourns & repents; women and kids slain; king left, beheads Shiz & faints; Ether writes & hides record.

Moroni:

1 Moroni, still alive after abridging Ether writes more: Christians hunted.

2 Christ’s prayer giving 12 power to lay on hands for gift of Holy Ghost.

3 Elders prayer ordaining priests & teachers by power of the Holy Ghost.

4 Elders and priests prayer administering the bread, as taught by Christ.

5 Their prayer for taking the cup to administer the wine is recorded.

6 Repentance before baptism; meet together oft to fast, pray, learn and partake of bread & wine; 3 witnesses are needed to expel unrepentant sinners; forgive whenever they repent; Holy Ghost to guide all actions.

7 Mormon’s words to believers on faith, hope & charity; how to judge the doers of good & evil; good only comes of God, seek it, don’t condemn it; God sends angels & prophets to teach of Christ, bringing faith; pray for the good, in faith, to receive it; miracles cease when faith does; no faith w/o hope; hope for resurrection; acceptable faith & hope requires humility and charity; charity defined: it endures, is greatest & pray for it.

8 Previous epistle from Mormon: he prays always for son; God answers dispute thru prayer: children innocent, don’t need baptism; perfect love dispels fear; those w/o the law also receive Christ’s mercy; faith leads to repentance, then to baptism, remission of sins, humility, Holy Ghost, then to hope, love, prayer & salvation; tells son to pray for Lamanites.

9 2nd epistle to son after brutal battle: people don’t fear death & angry w/ his preaching, but won’t give up on them; Lamanites cruel to prisoners; Nephites worse: torturing, delighting in evil rather than goodness & are past feeling; unspeakable widespread suffering; compliments and prays for son; will soon deliver remaining records; “may Christ lift thee up”.

10 Moroni (before sealing records): ponder God’s mercy & these words; if sincerely ask God in faith, then Holy Ghost will give truth; God’s many gifts are to profit us: Spirit to teach, faith, healings, miracles, prophecy, seeing angels, tongues & their interpretation, etc; salvation needs faith, hope & charity; sin brings despair; ye shall soon know I lie not; farewell.
