| 1997 - THE YEAR OF THE SEABIRD |
1997 was a big year for RB Barry
Sanders and the Sea Birds. After getting shutout the first game of
the season, Barry went on to score in 15 straight games on his way to the
MVP title. The Sea Birds won their final nine games of the season
to win the league with a record 15 wins and a comfortable five game cushion.
At least the race for second place went down to the wire, with three teams
in the hunt the final week. The Whips beat the rival Skid Marks the
final week to clinch second place.
HIGHLIGHTS FROM 1997:

Rod Smith, a 4th round draft pick for the Pachyderms, became
the top WR of the year with 122 points.

Kordell Stewert (Idiots) had a breakout season, scoring 203
points and taking top QB honors.

In Week 11, the Denver Defense (Skid Marks) set a league
record with 59 points, including a shutout and 3 TDs.

That same Week 11, the Skid Marks set a league record with
117 points.

RB Corey Dillon (Rebels) set a rookie record with 46 points
in Week 15, including 4TDs and 246 yards rushing.

Barry Sanders (Sea Birds) had two 80+ TDs in one game, scoring
a RB record 48 points in Week 7. He went on to win the MVP with a
150.0 rating.

The Big Trade of 1997: Skid Marks traded RB Antowain Smith,
QB Mark Brunell and their #1 and #2 picks to the Dunces to get QB Brett
Favre. The Skid Marks went on to win four straight games after the
trade.

The Sea Birds set a new record with 1,154 total points this
season.
LOWLIGHTS FROM 1997:

The Riff Raff posted the low score of the year with a mere
7 points in Week 11.

RB Emmitt Smith (Idiots), the league MVP in 1995, didn't
score a TD until Week 8.

The Israelites trade up to get the #1 draft pick and select
RB Troy Davis, who finishes the year with 0 points.

The Rebels vow to run up the score on the Sea Birds during
their Week 6 matchup. The Sea Birds win easily, 44-16.

The Rooks, League Champions in 1995, didn't get their first
win until Week 7. They did manage to finish the season with a 9-8
record though.

The Rooks, Rebels and Dunces all had losing streaks of six
games.

The Dunces set a record low with only 621 total points for
the season.
