The Power of Lightning - The 1998 101 Boyz |
It was the closest finish in
league history, and when it was over the 101 Boyz emerged on top as the
1998 Champions. With the top two teams at 11-5-1, the total point
tiebreaker had to be used for the first time, and the 101 Boyz beat the
Israelites by a mere 14 points. QB Randall Cunningham, picked up
to replace the injured Brad Johnson, was the main weapon for the Boyz,
scoring 218 points in just 12 games.
HIGHLIGHTS FROM 1998:

WR Randy Moss (Dunces), the #1 pick in the draft, was the
top WR with 187 points and was named 1998 Rookie of the Year.

QB Steve Young (Rebels), the original #1 pick in 1995, was
the top QB with 268 points and runner-up in the MVP race.

RB Terrell Davis (War Mongers) was the 1998 MVP and top RB
with a league record 278 points and a 173.2 MVP rating.

Week 14 saw the greatest shoot-out in league history, as
the Vipers edged the Zeppelins 116-115.

QB Randall Cunningham (101 Boyz) topped 40 points twice in
the same year.
LOWLIGHTS FROM 1998:

In Week 17 the Vipers scored 4 points, the lowest weekly
total in league history.

RB Barry Sanders (Sea Birds), the 1997 MVP with 244 points,
failed to reach 100 points for the first time in his career. He finished
with 89 points.

QB Kordell Stewer (Idiots) scored (-9) points in the final
month to drop to 60 on the season. Last year he was the top QB with
204 points.

The Israelites had a two game lead going into Week 13, but
then went 1-3-1 down the stretch to finish in second place.
