We'll begin this story with the punchline:
Rick Strouse hit two homeruns in a single game.
We repeat, do not adjust your monitors. Your contact
lenses are in working condition.
Strouse went deep twice.
If you haven't laughed yourself off your computer chair and
are still able to read this, the Mean Machine played perhaps
its strangest set of games in history with a split against
Eddie's Tavern, ?-? and 5-3.
The opener saw the Machinists go deep a record six times,
including two shots by Strouse (he had 2 career HRs in his
previous 111 career games) and two from a Machine newcomer: Wes
Little.
Jon Magnuson and Tom Pelsnik completed the
longball nonsense with their own homeruns.
In the nightcap, the M.M.'s watched a 3-2 last-inning lead
dissipate with all the glory of Byung-Hyun Kim on a 3-run
walkoff blast.
The 3-6-1 team's final four games will be played against teams
with a combined .500 record: Famous Sam's, currently
10-0; and the Dirty Dogs, 0-10.
