Chapter  6 A month went by and Kari had only spoken to Jeff twice.  The loneliness was killing her.  She and Adrian had been spending more time together.  Finally one night after a long day of taping, she had just laid down when the phone rang. "Finally.", Jeff said.       "Hey baby."       "Kari, I miss you terribly."       "Well, I miss you too honey."      "I can’t stand this anymore.  You have to come home." She sighed.     "Jeff, you know I can’t.  Why don’t you come here and visit me."       "I can’t.  We’ve got shows just about every night."      "It will be over soon.  I’ll be home before you know it."       "Kari, you don’t understand.  This is killing me.  I can’t just pick up the   phone and call you when I want to.  I can’t see you.  I can’t touch you.   I can’t hold you."        "I know.  I feel the same way.  But what do you want me to do?  Just bag   the whole movie and come home."        "Yes………but I know you can’t.  I just don’t know if I can do this for   another month."        "I don’t know what to tell you, other than, I love you."        "I love you too.  That’s why this hurts so much." They talked a while longer and she finally convinced him that he would be okay.  Although she wasn’t sure whether she was trying to convince him or herself.  The next day, Adrian and Kari were to shoot a love scene.  Kari was incredibly nervous.  She had done love scenes before, but this one was going to be hard.  She had become very attracted to her co-star and it was all she could do to fight the feelings that she was having.  The director called for a closed set because of the intensity of the shoot.  Only the crew members who were absolutely necessary, were there so that the two didn’t feel so uncomfortable.  The scene began with Kari entering the room where she slowly undressed.  The next shot had the two in bed.  Kari knew that it was acting, but it was hard for her to control the feelings that were brewing inside of her.  That had never happened to her before.  As they laid there, pretending to make love while the cameras rolled, Adrian and Kari got a little too wrapped up in the moment.  The scene was over and the director yelled cut.  They didn’t stop kissing.  "Cut!", he yelled again.   Kari blushed as she realized what she was doing. Adrian smiled at her and then at the director, "Sorry.  I didn’t hear you."  The director looked at him as if to say, ‘Yeah right.’.  Then he proceeded to say, "Since Mr. Paul and Ms. Knight gave such a fine performance, we got that scene in one shot.  Thinking that it would take a lot longer to shoot, I have nothing else for you to do today.  And since you all have been working so hard, I’m giving you all the next three days off." Kari was embarrassed by what just happened and at the same time, excited about having a few days off.  They each retreated to their dressing rooms.  Kari had just finished getting dressed when Adrian entered the room closing the door behind him.  He walked over to her and looked her in the eyes.  She didn’t know what to say. "Tell me if I’m wrong, but I think there was more to what just happened then either of us is willing to admit.", he said.   He was right and she knew it.  "Whatever it was, it shouldn’t have happened.  I have a boyfriend, remember?", she said. "Who is thousands of miles away.", he said, "And has probably cheated on you three or four times by now." Kari became angry at this person who she thought was her friend, "You don’t know him.  He’s not like that." "Kari, all men are like that.  No matter how sweet they are or how much they love you, it just happens.  It’s not that he doesn’t love you, it’s just that a man needs to be with a woman.  It’s a physical thing."   He leaned in and kissed her.  She gave in at first.   "Tell me you don’t want this.", he whispered to her.   She couldn’t answer him, because as much as she loved Jeff, he wasn’t there.  She was lonely and she wanted Adrian.  But she regained her wits and pulled away from him, saying nothing as she walked out the door.  She went back to her hotel room and packed her things.  She was going to spend the next few days with the man she loved.  How she couldn’t wait to see his face when she showed up.          Last Chapter ..*..
