The Dark of Night - 2

Jason greeted them happily, surprised to see that the whole gang had made the trip.

"You’re not moving back, are you?", Jason asked hugging Shea.

"No.  Why?", Shea asked puzzled at his question.

"I just wanted to make sure that you didn’t think you were getting your room back.", he said laughing.

"Nice to see that you haven’t changed a bit Mr. Smartass.", she said also laughing.

Kari and Jeff slipped away and were headed up the stairs to her room.  They could hardly keep their hands off of each other.

"And just where do you two think you’re going?", Matt asked as they reached the bedroom door.

Jeff turned around and smiled a wicked smile at him before Kari yanked him into her room and slammed the door.

"Horndogs.", Jason cracked.

The others unpacked their things and sat around chit chatting.  About an hour later, Kari and Jeff joined them in the kitchen.  They were all giggly and goofy acting.

"You know you guys are sickening don’t you?", Jason asked.

"You’re just jealous.", Kari said.

  "Of what?", Jason returned.

"Oh come on Jase!  You know you’d do him.", Kari blurted out as she busted out laughing - as did the others.

Jason looked at her like she was crazy.  Then he turned his gaze to Jeff and looked him up and down.  In his gayest voice he said, "No, Matt’s more my type."  He turned and winked at Matt.  Kari and Shea busted out laughing.

Matt didn’t know whether to laugh or hit him.

"Uh, Matt.  You can breathe now.  I was kidding!", Jason said laughing.

Matt then laughed too.  He was relieved.

"We need to head over to the arena here pretty soon.", Matt informed them.

They all got ready and did just that.  The show went off without a hitch.  After the show, they all went dancing.  They had a great time just like they always did when they were all together.

"I’m really going to miss this while you’re gone.", Jason said as they exited the bar and made their way to the cars.

"We’ll be back in town before you know it.  Besides, you can come visit us anytime.", Amy told him.

"Thanks.  But I was talking to Kari.", he said.

It was almost as if daggers shot out of Kari’s eyes as she shot her roommate a look of death.

"Oh.  Sorry.", Jason apologized.

"What are you talking about?", Jeff asked.

"Well, I was going to tell you later, but I guess I should now.", she started.

"Tell me what?", Jeff asked.

"I got that part that I was telling you about the other day.  Only thing is, it shoots in Paris.  I’m going to be gone for around four months.", she explained.

They all got quiet as they waited for his reaction.

"Oh.", he simply said and climbed into the passenger side of Kari’s car.  She turned to Matt.

"Guess you should have told him, huh?", he said as he and Amy got into Shea’s car.  Guessing that the two lovebirds needed to be alone, Jason road in the other car.

The ride home was extremely quiet.  Jeff said nothing only stared out the window.  He could feel Kari glancing over at him.

"Aren’t you going to say anything?", she pleaded.

He turned around with a wounded look in his eyes, "Why didn’t you tell me?"

"I was going to.", she said.

"When?  When you got on the plane?", he asked.

She didn’t answer.

"When do you leave?", he asked.

"In four days.", she reluctantly answered.

It seemed as though someone had dealt him a hard blow to the stomach as he gazed at her in disbelief.  "Four days?  And you’re going to be gone for four months?", he asked growing slightly angry.

"Jeff..", she started.

"Don’t you think we could have talked about this before you took the part.", he asked.

"Jeff.  It’s a really great gig.  I thought you’d be happy.", she answered.

"Well, I guess you thought wrong.", he said.

The rest of the ride was in complete silence.  He was fuming mad and she was choking back her tears.
