Chapter 8

"Whatcha thinkin’ about?", Josie asked Sky as they turned onto their street, "No, wait.  Let me guess.  Jeff.  That sure was some lip lock he threw on you back there."

Sky didn’t say anything.  She only smiled at her sister.   Then she thought of something.  She turned to Josie, "How is he going to call me when I didn’t give him my number?"

"Matt has it.  I made sure of that.", Josie said giving her a sly grin.

They both thought back to the morning events and laughed at the undeniably strange happenings.  They reached home and went inside.

As Josie checked the messages on the answering machine, she was suprised to hear Matt’s voice, "Hey Josie, this is Matt.  I was wondering.  We’ve got a show in Nashville tonight and we were wondering if you two wanted to come and watch us.  Then we could hang out after.  Just call me back and let me know."

She turned to Sky and asked, "Well, what do you think?  You wanna drive 3 ½ hours to see your lover boy?"

"I don’t have a lover boy, remember?  I believe that was you who was banging around in there last night.", Sky quipped playfully.

"Why, Sky, I’m shocked.  All this time you were hiding a real person in there.", Josie laughed, "And I thought you were doomed to be a stick in the mud for the rest of your life."

And it was at that moment that their relationship shifted from that of parent and child to sisters.  The way it should have been all along.

"I’m game if you are.", Sky said.

"Do you really have to ask?", Josie said with that famous smile of hers.  Josie had always been known for her beautiful smile.  She and Sky looked a lot alike.  She too was tall and thin with bright green eyes. But she had their mother’s red hair and fair complexion, where Sky had taken more after their  father.  She was carefree and good hearted.  Sky had always been jealous of Josie’s ability to live in the moment.  She was never given the chance to be carefree as she was spring boarded from high school senior to full fledge adult with all the responsibilities of being a parent thrown on her shoulders.  In some ways she was grateful, as it did get her where she was in life.  But sometimes she would dream at night of what her life would have been like if her mother were still alive.  Would she have been more like Josie, or would she still be the way she was?  It was useless to wonder what would have happened for the past could not be changed.  She had now realized for the first time that Josie didn’t need her to play the dowting mother anymore.  She was all grown up and could take care of herself.  Although she would never stop worrying about her sister, she knew it was time for her to live her own life.

"I’m not scheduled to work again for two more days so there’s no problem there. And your off tonight too, right?", she asked.

"Yeah.  It’s Thursday, my night off.", Josie answered.

"Good. Call him back and tell him we’ll be there.", Sky said.  She was taking the first step to enjoying her life.

They arrived at the arena about 6:15 p.m.  The show was to start at seven o’clock.  Neither one of them had ever seen a wrestling show on television let alone live, so they had no idea what to expect.  They pulled around back as Matt had instructed them to do.  They walked up to the guard and gave him their names.  They noticed the large group of people that where yelling at them as he let them through the gate.

"I guess, we should feel special.", Josie said smugly, causing them both to laugh.

They were stopped again by another guard at the backdoor.

"No ma’am.  I’m sorry, but your name is not on the list.", he said not budging from his spot in front of the door.

"Let me handle this.", Josie said winking at Sky.

"Excuse me, mister security guard person.", she said as she twisted her hair around her finger and batted her eyes at him, "I think there’s just been a misunderstanding.  If you could just get on your little walkie talkie thingy and have someone get Matt and Jeff, I’m sure they’ll be glad to come and straighten this whole thing out."

He stood there stone faced for a moment.  Then he smiled a goofy smile and said something into his radio.  "They should be here in a minute, Miss.", he said smiling at her.

"How did you do that?", Sky asked her sister who was standing there looking very proud of herself.

"You just gotta know how to turn on the charm.  It melts them like butter.", Josie replied as they both laughed.

A few minutes later, Matt opened the back door of the arena.  The loud screams from the crowd that was still gathered out back were almost deafening.  "Hey girls.  Come with me.", he said as he held the door open for them.  "Thanks a lot man.", he said turning to the security guard.

"Your welcome.  I’m sorry about the mix up, Mr. Hardy.", the guard replied.

"No problem.", Matt returned.
