Chapter  13

The four of them had lunch and then parted ways.  The guys were headed to another show and the girls headed home.  Sky talked to Jeff several times over the course of the next week, as Josie did Matt.  The following Wednesday, Sky finished her shift at 11 o’clock and headed home for the night.  She took a long bath and had just settled into bed when there was a knock at the door.  "Who the hell is that at this time of night?", Sky said starting to panic, "Surely Josie hasn’t forgotten her key again.  No, she won’t be home until around 3."  Sky put on her robe and grabbed the baseball bat from under her bed.  Her heart started to race as she heard the knock again.  She very quietly walked to the front window.  She peeked out to find Jeff standing in front of the door.  Relieved, Sky set the bat down and opened the door.  "What are you doing here?", she asked.  "Well, hello to you to.", he said smiling.  "Come on in.", she said.  So, he did.  "Excuse the way I look.", Sky said running her fingers through her hair, "I had just laid down."  "I think you look beautiful.", Jeff said staring into her eyes.  She could feel her face turn red.  "So, you didn’t answer me.  What are you doing here?", she asked as she pulled herself away from his stare.  "We had a show in Little Rock tonight and then we were headed home.  Since we were so close, I couldn’t stand not to come by and see you."  "We?  Where’s Matt?", she asked.  "He went to the club to see Josie", he said.  "I should have known.", Sky said laughing.  She went into the kitchen and put on a pot of coffee.  She knew that she would not be sleeping anytime soon.  Jeff grabbed a soda from the refrigerator and took a seat on the couch.  Sky poured a cup of coffee and joined him.  "I’m ready for another lesson.", Jeff said.  "Excuse me?", sky asked.  "A lesson in the life of Sky.", he said smiling.  "What do you want to know?", she asked as she took a sip of her coffee.  "Let’s see.", he said, pondering the question, "How about how you managed going to medical school and taking care of Josie at the same time."  Sky took a deep breath and started her long tale.  "My grandfather died about a year after we moved to Memphis, leaving us quite a large inheritence.  I decided that I needed to some how better my life, for myself and for Josie.  So, I decided to go to medical school.  There was an older, retired lady that lived in the same apartment building that we did.  Her name was Mrs. Robinson.  She looked after us all of the time.  She became our surrogate grandmother, always baking goodies and cooking us dinner.  When I told her that I wanted to go to medical school, she volunteered to help in any way that she could.  Regular classes were no problem, I went while Josie was at school.  When I started my internship and had to work some weird shifts.  So, Josie stayed with her a lot.  For a couple of years, she was at Mrs. Robinson’s more than she was at home.  Josie didn’t mind though, she loved spending time with her.  I couldn’t have made it without her."  "You were lucky you had her.", Jeff said.  "Yes, I think someone was really looking out for me.", Sky said with a smile, "I always offered to pay her, but she always refused.  She didn’t have any family, so I think she needed us as much as we needed her.  We bought this house two years ago and moved her in with us.  Six months after we moved in, she died one night in her sleep."  "I’m sorry.", Jeff said grabbing her hand.  "Josie took it really hard.  She had already been through so much, and there she had once again lost someone that she loved.  I still don’t think she’s completely over it.  But, there you have it in a nutshell.", Sky said finishing her story, "Now it’s your turn.  You have to tell me something."  "What do you want to know?", he asked.  "Tell me how you got started in this whole wrestling thing.", she said with a smile.  So, Jeff proceeded to tell her the tale of how he and Matt  use to hold wrestling matches in their back yard.  And how they were signed with the WWF.  "But you know, it was always more of Matt’s dream than it was mine.", he revealed to her, "I mean, I always wanted to do it, but it was what Matt lived for.  It was great at first."  "It’s not anymore?", she asked.  "Don’t get me wrong.", he said, "I still love the rush of entering the arena and hearing thousands of fans screaming for us.  I’m just tired I guess.  It has taken over my whole life.  I miss being at home.  And I miss being able to go out somewhere and not be recognized."  He grew sadder as he spoke, "I wouldn’t trade the experiences for anything in the world.  But, I’d give it all up tomorrow if I could.  I miss being a normal person."  "You’re normal to me.  Well, almost normal.", she said laughing as she pointed out his multi-colored locks.  "That’s what I like about you so much.", he said staring into her eyes, "You see me.  Not the superstar, but the person."  He leaned over and gently began to kiss her.  The passion grew stronger each time their lips touched.  Sky trembled slightly as he began to lightly kiss her neck.  "Let me make the other night up to you.", he whispered in her ear.  She stood up, taking him by the hand and led him to her bedroom.  It was then that she gave herself to him completely, body and soul.
